Not wanting to start another - spec me a phone thread so I will keep it simple.

Basically - I have been offered a Desire Sim Free from O2 for £285 - I am currently on a really good simplicity tariff with a iPhone 3G however...

I would prefer HTC phone sporting the a 4.3 inch screen like the Evo. I understand that there is talk about a Desire HD but was looking for thoughts on buying a desire now vs waiting for a new one.

I know there is always something waiting in the wings that's bigger and better but I really want rid of the iPhone.

Nothing in general I dislike about it - its more that I fancy a change. The Mrs wants my phone and I am not paying £500 or the iP4... ever.

There's no high end HTC device on the horizon really apart from the rumourville Desire HD - it's hard to say really. It could probably be manufactured pretty quickly (likely same internals with different screen / maybe processor replacement) or might even be the codename for the Desire with the TFT replacement screen as they can't get enough AMOLEDs from Samsung.

Put it this way, its only a few months old and will be a great phone still. Worst case is you use it for a year, sell on ebay and just buy something else ;)

I have the EVO and absolutely love it. The 4.3" screen is big to start with but now I'm used it, it's just glorious :D
The Desire HD is probably true, so wait and get that!

I just dont understand why they couldnt drop the 4g from the device and ship to the UK - there must be a market for it!

Doesn't use the same radio chip. No 2 chips are the same size / pin layout unless designed for that purpose of replication / drop in replacement.

i recently moved from iphone 3g to samsung galaxy s and tbh i made the right choice

awesome ability to customize near enough everything

be prepared to flash/patch/root the phone though, the iphone was pick up and use, but androids are more DIY to get it perfect lol

I'd like to keep my simplicity tariff but would also like a galaxy s or desire, how did you get o2 to offer you a phone at that price?

There's always the Samsung Galaxy S if you want a phone with some interesting hardware (faster processor, better 3d, SAMOLED screen).

I've convinced myself to hold off. The Desire hardware is essentially 7 (give or take) months old (Nexus One).

Isn't this true with all electronic hardware? imo if you want it get it, playing the waiting game for up-to-date hardware is a little bit futile.

The desire has at least 12 months being a top mobile phone.

HTC refresh phones much faster than every 12 months. The hero only came out 12 months ago.

The desire is no longer top dog, the Samsung is.

He probably went through to retentions on O2 and on the simplicity contract they will offer it to you for £285.

Thats the one - just ring them and be nice to the lady. They can even send you the phone and put it on your next bill... impressive!

Its extremely close though, and they are priced accordingly.

If you can get a Desire for £285, do it. Bargain.

It will still be good this time next year and if not, flog it and get a new phone ;)
