I finished Moonphase today. Nicely presented little box set except for the series description not being stuck on properly but the guide books were a nice touch. Wish funi would do a S&W special edition with say mug and book when the second season comes out.

In terms of the show itself I was a little underwhelmed, as it really seemed aimed at moe lovers and there was a distinct lack of both flare, and the amazingly, well supposedly, powerful vampire girl really didn't do much. Outer Moka from R+V would beat her in no time, there was just a distinct lack of oomph to the vampiric side of the show. It almost felt like the first two episodes of dance in the vampire bund before the protagonist realised what he was, made more mundane and stretched out over 25 episodes.
Was hoping for more... bite.

I think you've driven a stake right through the heart of Moonphase...

/gets coat. (never seen it, but i felt like joining in :p)

Agree with Strike Witches, the second episode was very enjoyable i thought. Animation was really nice. The quick cuts to panty shots just make me smirk now they've lost their 'shock' value. It has a feeling of cheesiness to it.

Moonphase wasn't bad for what it was, eyecandy with a catchy tune, but it did as has been said lack a certain bite :)

I finished Maria watches over us S1 a couple of days ago, which was good, but I needed a change of pace (plus something i could watch without my eyes on the screen all the time:p) so I watched Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro Chan which was very funny and rather rude :
I also finally got round to watching Wings of Honneamise on Blu-ray which was a very good picture (especially given the age of the materials), and great to finaly be able to watch it uncut and without interruptions.
I'd forgotten a lot of things about it since I last saw it on TV when sci-fi showed it about 6 years ago, things when Shirotsugh (the astronaut) and the doc are watching the engine test and it hiccups after Shiro enquires about how safe it is, then turns around to find the Doc has disappeared at high speed out the door :)
The amount of detail on things like the steam engines, rocket, aircraft (counter rotating props*), is surprising given it's age as well.
My one complaint is that Honneamise (the company) didn't do any sign subs from what I can tell, so when there are signs you've no idea what they are saying.

*I think that was actually a design tried at one stage on fixed wing aircraft (I know it's in use on some helicopters)

Moonphase is pretty good actually, you just need to remember that it isn't a serious vampire anime .... i.e. no fighting, no attacks ... it is silly and amusing, if a bit odd in places. Think of it more as Karin instead of Hellsing.

Next up is probably Gankutsuou or possibly another look a Toradora Pt 1 to see if I can tweak the play back settings to make it look better.

I was ok with Moonphase not being serious, but it may as well not even have bothered with the vampire element, because they decided to make hazuki ridiculously weak, despite her being a daywalking noble. Ive not seen Karin so can't compare, but Rosario and Vampire was also non-serious, well the anime much more so than the manga, but even then it did a much better job of keeping the status quo.
When you need a human to protect a vampire, even a young one, then you have strayed to far from the roots, because a vampire of reasonable age is always going to be stronger and faster than most humans. The antagonists were also pretty poor which didn't help the series any, you need a good villain to make the heroes shine.

Best bit of the series was probably the background score, which is disappointing, a serious lack of bite indeed.

On another note just watched the Tales of Vesperia movie, which I thought was actually rather good as a lead up to the game, even if the feel was a little different. As Project I.G did the games' anime scenes it gelled and flowed well, and ending with the games intro sequence was a nice touch.
Not an amazing movie in its own right but it never wanted to be, some of the cameos could probably have been dropped or expanded for better effect though. I thought the games dub was very good so I'll be watching for an American release if it ever comes, providing they retain the cast.
A good companion piece to arguably the best JRPG this console generation.

It didn't think outside the box or do anything new but what Vesperia did, it did well, usually very. I dont get sucked into a console game like that often. Personally I think twas better than the acclaimed Tales of Symphonia and I heard rumours its a popular candidate for a sequel inside the company who made it.

On a separate note, the guy who sent me those awesome S&W bits has made an AMV for the series, set against The Scorpions' Love will keep us alive and I figure its worth a plug and he would appreciate the comments and also voting for Holo in the animes moe polls.

You can watch it in 720p if you go to YouTube.

Did not think a show could have more cameltoes or Boobs per episode than Strike Witches ;)
But i just finished KissxSis,borderline Hentei is the one way to describe it :D
It just did not stop from first ep to last lol
No plot just silliness from beginning to end
Golden Shower anyone ;)

I did haven't see the KissXSis TV series, although I have seen the previous OVAs ... having got a younger sister I am firmly in the camp of not understanding the attraction towards them ... I think whoever came up with that particular genre obviously never had a younger sister in real life :)

So, made my way through the first half of Toradora. Ok yes the disks have issues which are very noticeable in places, but they are reasonably watchable (and I have put in for replacements). The series, moderately funny ... at times it flirts with being very good but at other times it does seem to overuse the same jokes a bit to much ... I'll be interested to see what happens in the rest of the series ...

Actually the sisters(step sisters) are older but ....
I like Toradora so i will wait untill they do a re-release of this,How `bad` are the problems with these discs?

Oddly enough kissxsis is what I'm watching right now as well. Finding it pretty funny, its like a more direct version of b gata h Kei, with a plot just as silly.
As they're only step sisters (and older) it doesn't really bother me (although if they were actual sisters I wouldn't watch it, that just doesn't appeal to me), but then perhaps the controversy passes me by to some extent, because I have an old friend who I know ended up in a similar scenario, so I've already dealt with that level of moral ambiguity outside of a tv series.

The teacher has to be my favourite character so far, she's pretty good for getting a laugh.

The Toradora disks are watchable (although this can vary abit depending on setup apparently) and the problems are only noticeable in scenes containing movement, (some panning shots are pretty bad). Note that at the moment there is no information on whether a re-release will be produced.

then I am definitely going to wait,I spot things like panning glitches etc, looks like I will be keeping my present version for a while then ;)

Damn I really need to keep up to date. Apparently there's a second season of K-On?

Still haven't watched any anime since I finished Nodame season 1, which was absolutely fantastic.

The second season of K-On! (K-On!!) is still airing, I think it's up to episode 15 or so at the moment. Comments have been that it's not as good as season 1 but personally I haven't seen any of it to be able to make a judgement. In related news Bandai have licensed season 1 for R1 release.

I love Nodame Cantabile, (the OP from season 1 is currently the ring tone on my mobile), ... truly an excellent series. The R3TW DVD for it will be likely to be re-appearing in my re-watch pile at some point in the near future.

It would be very nice if someone licensed all the series (and the movies) for R1 release.

Must get around to ordering maria sama series 4 this weekend

While I remember (yes, re-watch *cough*) ... with season 4 it's a good idea to watch the next episode previews. With the previous seasons they tended to be presented in a humorous manner but in season 4 there are a couple of plot points which come up in these and are only referred to in passing in the main episodes.

:chuckles:

I've still got to get started on S2 of Maria, I watched S1 which I enjoyed but the past few days have been given over to "something completely different" ;) (YUA Full Throttle episodes 13-18, which have been really good).

I should finish YUA off tonight, then I can start of Maria S2 :D

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but anime-online are doing a box set (clearance?) sale, various sets at £15-20.
I'm tempted by a couple but i've got enough of a backlog as it is (Maria S2-4, My Hime etc).
