OK house mate comes home and he has a nokia e71? he's fuming as reckons someone loaded gay porn on his mobile :D - i see the funny side and after a while i geto grips with the phone, i cant shift it from being the home page no matter what i do.... so find a code on the net and complete wipe it, (not just factory reset that is in options) he had is contacts backed up from a month ago and was happy to restore them and lose the rest (he cares not for mobiles)

so brand new reset, do all the nokia updates and put the contacts back... job done...

1 hour later it comes back some gay porn page with two blokes on :D

serioly what is going on? any ideas, all he did was goto o2 wap and bam!

any ideas?
 
Reflash the firmware. E71 has had lots of updates, I posted in the E71 thread how to flash the latest generic firmware. Have a search for it.

Also format the memory card.
 
press *#7370# It reflashes and restarts the phone. This is a HARD reset. and much more thorough than the norman 'factory reset'

ok mate, i will see about that. formatting the memory card is something i properly should have done!
 
Formatting the memory card is your best bet. It isn't touched when a Nokia phone performs a factory reset.

Also worth remembering if you ever sell a Nokia phone.

Was busy earlier, here it is. It's a guide to change the product code from a network one to a generic one. Then you just reflash as normal - plug into the PC and run nokia software updater. You may need to set the phone up all over again, even basic things, be aware of that. Also, make sure you back everything on the phone up first that you want to keep, restore manually and the minimum you can (as you don't want to reinfect).
 
Just to be sure, the above steps are how to unlock (rebrand?) the E71? I'm ditching mine soon so want to unlock it for a mate.

Edit - just carried on reading the comments, it doesn't unlock..
 
Yep, no unlock, just a rebrand. You can call up your network and often they can unlock it for you, I've heard people say it can be OK price from there. You should be able to find a shop somewhere that can unlock it for cheaper though. Depends where you live.
 
Yeah theres some of the general market places that have a couple of phone unlocking places not to far from me so i'll just get it done there. Interesting read though

No it's not. It's about as soft as they come and doesn't reflash at all. It just data wipes and factory resets the wizards.
 
well touch would, he txt me today and says its all working. we did the format of the memory card then *#7370# and it all seems fine. he knows nothing about technology and formatted the card before backing up bless him, so he has lost all his pics and music.

i will do the flash if it comes back
 
Buy a new phone instead of the dodgy buggy if you dont want your soon-to-be to see it ;)

read the thread, i have a HTC desire and know what im doing with them, this is my house mates phones. and if you doubt that is true try looking in the HTC desire /android apps thread you will see i post there a lot
