BMW E46 330i or 330d ??

Smg with clutch? Thought these didn't have a clutch pedal?

They dont, but they do have a clutch.

No more expensive than dual vanos replacement. Far cheaper tbh.

But largely irrelevent, you would need to be SERIOUSLY unlucky to have to replace the VANOS on an M54. It doesn't fail in the way the E36 M3 Evo does. I've never, ever heard of somebody requiring new VANOS unless another issue was misdiagnosed.

Injectors are £250ish fitted

But it has 6 of them! :p

You must be a troll. Surely you would have some idea about the price of a decent BMW if you have owned so many.....

Sorry, my point about the vanos price was in relation to the m3.

Yeah 6 of them :( 3 more to go for me!!

What?

Changes clutch like an auto? You realise an auto has NO CLUTCH.

It is just a hydraulically operated clutch. The reason people find them weird to get used to is that they try to drive them like a manual. Don't. Keep your foot on the throttle and change gear, don't try lifting off during the change or you end up with that infamous jolting people assume is the SMGI style.

Then again, as an owner of one, I'd have expected you to know this.

Yes i drove it like that, i must admit it was much better once you give it the beans as you just bury the throttle and change up when needed. It seemed much faster and smoother than i could do it manually.

It was just around town i couldnt get used to.

Maybe im just a manual guy.

I owned a e46 318i about 4 years ago and would like another, but this time a more refined engine, ie the 330i or the 330d.

Im a little out of touch about e46 prices since so long owning one.

So stop with all the troll business.

My old M3 Evo got better mpg on a long run than my old 330ci (34 vs 30mpg). Tbh if you are worried about economy you should be looking at diesels. However as has been said already, your budget isn't really up to it.

Another point, if you've had so many M3s, you are going to get very bored of the 330's performance regardless of fuel type - I did and got shot fairly quickly.

Maybe you should be looking at a 540i or something?

Your 330Ci was very broken then

Something wasn't right - I never got above 30mpg over the same stretch of road that would regularly see more in the M3.

The 330 was 2.5 years old with 20k miles and bought from the same main dealer as the E36. I always thought it was down to the M3's 6th gear. Either way I couldn't handle the lack of power even for all its smoothness.

Point still stands though, I think the op either needs to up his budget or have a rethink on the type of car.

Suspiciously cheap. No mention of mileage. Photographed on somebodies driveway yet being sold by some sort of dealer. Not sounding good.

No interior photos, whats it hiding? Loads of junk strewn upon the back parcel shelf even though he is tring to take good photos to sell it. Has a fake shark fin on the roof, seriously, what sort of person does that? Very very cheap, why? Advertised as an M Sport when it's a Sport.

Most promising one so far.

Great colour combo, crappy gangster tints. Is an automatic so will have the swirl flap design flaw where the flaps break down over time, are ingested by the engine, writing off the entire engine with a £2k+ repair bill. Manual 184bhp cars do not have swirl flaps and are unaffected.

Yea, good spot. Interior looks pretty shabby - reckon the cream one might be as well, cream hides dirt and shabbyness well in photos but not so well in the flesh!

Cheers looking very promising then.

So only the auto has the swirl flaps and manuals dont ?

In 184bhp form, I am 90% sure this is the case yes. The 184bhp manuals definately do not have them, the automatic 530d's definately DO have them, and I'm pretty sure the same is the case for automatic 330d's.

Sadly both manual and auto 204bhp 330d's have swirl flaps.

I think i will just have to wait a little bit and keep looking out for a manual.

Im still stumped on the i or d :D

Just cant seem to make up my mind... Is the diesel much better on fuel or just marginal ?
