I've had a lot of pictures taken in 1940 and 1944 sat on my PC for around 5 years, think i got them from some FTP server that was posted on some forum or other.

I've finally got around to hosting them and am beginning to put captions on too, mainly based on a set of French captions i found on some guys Flickr account. I'm sure he copied them from somewhere else so i don't feel too bad.

Anway, hope some of you enjoy them, i think they provide an interesting insight into the events of those times.

Had a look at a few, but really musn't let myself look at more because it genuinly interests me but dont have the time right now. Saved for later though, thanks.

As horrible as it was, it is a very interesting period in our history.

Good collection, interested in if any of them feature Vimoutiers / Mardilly or Gace it's not far from Argentan, have you been to Argentan? there is a memorial to the Falaise Gap / Pocket, pretty shocking and in Vimoutiers there is a Tiger Tank, a friend lives there.

Nice, I was looking through a collection a few Months back where the WWII Photos were superimposed on to modern day Photos, so half the scene appeared from WWII, they were by far the most eerie pictures from WWII I have seen, very thought provoking and made me realise just how recent in World History WWII really was.

I hate to word it like this, but I always enjoy sifting through pictures of WWI and WWII. The period of history is just fascinating on so many levels, as well as being unspeakably horrific at the same time.

Love stuff like this, thanks a lot. All the more insightful when you see guys younger then me / my friends sat on top of a tank smiling away, thinking the hellish stuff they probably saw.

Here is a couple from WWI that I've got for a project years ago, won't post them all.

Fascinated me for years. I wonder if they knew what they were really signing up too.

Too many sad stories, war.

Pipers are nutters. :p

Not all of them signed up - my Dad's older brother was killed in 1945 somewhere near the border with Germany while fighting with the Highland Light Infantry (despite the fact he was from Kent - you just got allocated where they were short of troops). He was conscripted and wasn't even meant for the infantry as he was very bright lad, but they just needed whoever they could get - very sad indeed.

Great photo collection - thanks for sharing.
It makes me wonder how lucky we are to not live and be drafted in this era of history, and how respectful I am of those that did have to endure it, not through choice.
And to think young 'uns today think they have it bad?...

Yeah the story was world war I! ;) :p

I've added unit names as far as I can remember them, i didn't save the files under the names stupidly enough and I've had these for years.

I'll maybe dig out a few more interesting ones later when I get back from work..

:)
