Lend me your ears..

Just wondering what people think of this, I used to have the A4 version on a 2000 plate, in the same colour too and even though it wasnt the quickest in a straight line I do miss the grip and handling also the interior, spoke to the guy and waterpump and cambelt have been done at main dealer with receipts to prove

My car goes on Friday hopefully so tempted to have a look, he is only two miles from me.

My dilemma is though, i'm a Honda nut really and I dont want to end up regretting paying £5.5K for an 8 year old car but I suppose thats what the CTR's of the same age are going for, ideally I want a CTR but at 29 my brain is telling me to get something a bit less... young laddish?

An old shape A3... really? There aren't really many worse ways of wasting £5,500.

If you want to step up from civics and the like and be less "young laddish", get a proper sized car, with a proper sized engine.

nothing wrong with a civic r at 29.

as for that audi though, massively over priced and the engine will bore you to death compared a civic r lump... and that audi is quattro so under powered and 4wd. bad combo, id get the civic and it sounds like you want to too!

You loved the 'handling' of a 94-01 A4?

Yeah the grip and handling were great for the size of the car, you driven one?

I've had 1.8 20VT in the A4 which was also quattro and also 180 BHP i'd expect the A3 to be a little lighter but not by much

I did also think its a little steep though, I sold my A4 with similar mileage for £5k two or was it 3 years ago

EP3 is hard to find in good condition :(

I think you are confusing grip and handling. I don't think an Audi A4 could ever be described as a 'great' handling car. I've driven one, yes. A 1.8T. It had all the usual Audi traits like lifeless steering..

lol? My neighbour has a Tyre R and he's in his late 30s/early 40s. Also has a ST220.

Not really, I said grip and handling as two seprate things, not one and the same.

It wont go down in history as a great handling car but from someone who has driven as many cars as I have my opinion on the handling was "great" not "amazing" not "exceptional" "outstanding" etc, just "great"

The 1.8T is generally the 150BHP version with smaller turbo, they dont go very well

For not picking what you would? Or does everyone that could afford a 6 pot BMW have to have one?

No, for wanting a screaming, brash, completely classless pile of plastic.

I see the appeal for younger owners, but at late 30s - early 40s? No.

Well your generalisation is quite blinkered. Not every 20-30yr old wants a VTEC or turbo moster and not every midlife person wants a big fat heavy german mobile.

Classless? So I presume an Atom or radical are also classless peices of plastic ;)

Fair enough, maybe it just handled "fine" then, regardless, the A3 is not B5 its 8L and i've already decided against BMW due to maintenance costs of the age of the car I could afford so they are not really worth mentioning

I'm still tempted to go look at this but i'll also keep looking for a nice example of a Hunduh.

I'm talking about the A4 you owned, but exactly the same can be said for the A3.

Like I said, fair enough but still, I know two people that have owned S3's and both werent bad handling cars

Anyway you are right, talking about it just makes it seems clearer and I should just keep looking for what I really want

I LOL'd.

Not so long ago, there were a few 05 2.0 TFSIs on AT for around £7.5K.

For your money, I'd rather have the EP3, especially if that's an itch you've been dying to scratch.
