gonna get a road buggy/quad

For £1k why not buy a scabby mx-5? Much more fun and much longer lasting... And will sell for what you paid for it.

I didn't realise that scabby MX5's had any kind of off-road ability? Do they also cost peanuts to tax and insure?

Just because your in a buggy doesn't mean it magically turns the roads in to a dirt track, you will sit in traffic most of the time and get wet / hot / cold

No sh...poo Sherlock. If you use what is effectively a small car on road most of the time then you will suffer the downsides of owning a small car.

I dont see any Summer fun on that. It'll fall to bits if you do any serious off roading, and on the road it has all the bad points of a bike (If you crash, you die, you get cold and wet) yet none of the good points, so why bother?

If you were talking about a Quad I would agree, but this is somewhat different. You are in rather than on the vehicle, they are physically larger and they are a damn sight more stable than a quad.

sorry this forum section is harsh, i have posted before about car advise, and its just flaming and abuse, which i always rise too :)

You get flamed and abused because of your pointlessly abrasive attitude, ridiculous suggestions and poorly written and thought out come-backs, I almost pity your wife to be.

DO IT! you only live once :) Looks like fun to me and its not going to break the bank!

Have you tried a Lotus? would look smarter for the wedding and produce just as much (if not more) fun :P But of course slightly more pennies but you could use it all year!

Don't worry about peeps on here, most of them spend £1k on new keyboards ;)

be interested to here peoples views

Sorry that's my view of which the OP asked for :), it's like buying a cr125 for the road, it's fun on the track / field but not on the road

Really? So these cost as much or more than an MX5 to insure and tax, and are no better off road? Are you sure?

The road going buggies do not go offroad. You know what is what I meant so don't be so picky. Also I doubt insurance is nice on these things due to the flimsyness of them. MX5s are cheap to insure and tax.

Flimsy? I rolled one at about 20/25mph and simply hopped out. Sure it was pretty heavily damaged (roll cage bent slightly, but otherwise only cosmetic damage, the drivetrain was straight enough that I could still drive it back to the hire shop), but if you roll a car do you think you'd just hop out?

My point here is that they aren't as flimsy as you'd think. I just waffle too much.

I hopped out just fine from my rolled car...which I did at ~70mph. :D

The one in the OP just screams low cost parts etc. and I'd not trust it to be used off road, it's designed for road use, the off road ones are designed for off road use.

Same as a car really, you can take them off road, but you'll likely do damage to them unless they are designed/adapted for it.

My mate took his wife to the church on the back of a quad

They don't get any love on here but I was looking at a Quad yesterday. My workplace is only a couple of miles away so a Quad would be a cheap way of getting from A to B and avoiding having to any excersise like walking or push bike. The only issue would be that I can take a passenger so I can drop the nipper off at school. Although not sure where her violin would go :D

and is a respectable high end teacher

I'm not sure I'd go that far :D

I say don't listen to all the pessimists here, I think it's a great idea. It's not like she got with you because you're a run of the mill guy. If anything, I think she'll expect off the wall things like this, it's what makes life interesting.

Fair enough! Though, let's face it... rolling a car at ~70 and hopping out is... well... lucky... :p

As I can lay testament to, using a road-only buggy off-road is asking for trouble, so I'd agree with that point. If the OP plans on going off-road with it, I'd think about something else :)

4,631 and counting of useless tripe, seriously why do you even post on these forums? and don't pity me or the wife we are fine, keep going at the internet dating thing and im sure you will find someone who likes the treated mean thing ;)

cheers dude, and yeah we like doing things on the odd side, the invite is open by the way, lot of your old school crowd coming,

i have weighed up and taken advice and can see there could be some bad point about taking her in a buggy with a white dress :) - but i will test and have a play anyway :D

I've had a few ATVs and they can be great fun but this last 10 years or so there is a lot of chinese junk with no parts support or QC flooding the UK (or more accurately ebay). You may end up with something that can not be repaired or at worst is unsafe. If you fancy a quad or buggy may be worth sticking to the big brands. I've always had honda and no complaints. Personally I don't like the idea of road legal quads - quads are for off road use and are in my view not very sensible for roads.

As for whether your wife would enjoy a novel wedding vehicle only you know the answer to that.

A slightly better effort, still a bit playgroundy though, try again. Can your wife speak english yet?
