It's been a while - Thought I'd share my brief first impressions of the ECO ALC which I just took delivery of yesterday from Overclockers.
AMD Phenom II 955 BE
GA-MA770 UD3 Rev2.0
Corsair XMS2 PC2-8500CS 8GB (4 x 2GB)
Radeon 4850 at stock speeds
Before:
Stock AMD Cooler
Overclocked to 3.6GHz @ 1.38volts
IDLE Core Temps @ 40 degreesC (all cores)
GPU 44 degreesC
LOAD Core temps 59.50 degreesC (Cores 0,1), 59.62 degreesC (Cores 2,3)
GPU 50 degreesC
After:
CoolIt ECO ALC
2 x Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900RPM mounted on ECO in Push-Pull config
Scythe's pulling air directly into the case, running fans off molex headers
Overclocked to 4.0GHz @ 1.45volts
IDLE Core Temps @ 32 degreesC
GPU 44 degreesC
LOAD Core temps 49.25 degreesC (all cores)
GPU 44 degreesC
So i junked the stock ECO fan and replaced with scythes and ran the scythes at full tilt - yes, it's noisy!
I will try with the fans running of the MB just to see how much it affects temps, and volume!
Got to say I am totally impressed. I was going to buy a Core and go with a big air cooler but i saw the Corsair H50 and thought it was a reasonable alternative - after a bit if digging around i found the ECO ALC...
Review after review compares the two and to be honest I concluded that there was very little, if anything, in it.
So I went with the ECO as it was cheaper by a fair shot (here on Overclockers) and I spent the extra saved on a couple of juicy fans as push-pull seems to be the way forward for good overclocking.
All my stuff these days on the PC is Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom plus HDR, I crank up some big filters on PS which canes the CPU, so for me good speed quad core for the thread and number crunching was the requirement.
The ECO was a breeze to fit - I used the stock AMD backplate that already on my system (a Titan Nero), replaced the Intel mounting arms with the AMD ones (very easy), and screwed into the backplate nice and tightly - no spinning of crews or iffy mounting, everything seated just right, used the stock paste that came on the ECO as dont see any reason to replace.
Trawling the forum here, the Customer Service ethos barrolde over at CoolIt seems to have puts icing on the cake and gives good credence to the 2 yr warranty.
Would I recommend it? Simple answer is Yes.
So there you have it - my 2-penneth and first impressions.
cheers.
