Go in and say your order really quickly so she wont understand it. When she says she didn't understand, say "oh...your French...erm..." and then give her your order in your best attempt at French. Something like "je voudrais une cafe au lait s'il vous plait". Expand the conversation from there and then offer to teach her English or show her round the town or take her for a drink or something along those lines.

Well, learn French, buy a phrase book, get some French travel brouchers from a travel agent, put them on the table and ask her about the places in the broucher !

Then post pic's on here !
 
Just order a drink, ask her "how's it going?". When she answers, ask her if she's French/where she's from. If she says "yes", ask her how long she's been in town for, is she over to study, whatever.

From there it could go anywhere - if you've been to France, tell her about it; if you want to go to France, tell her about it; if she says what she's in the UK for, relate to her.

This conversation would take hardly any time at all - you could even develop it whenever she serves you.

You'll soon figure out whether or not you can strike something up with her or not. You've got nothing to lose, and even if she rejects your amorous advances, it'll give you a chance to chat with someone who is probably unusual to you. Much better than ogling her from behind your coffee in the corner*.

*But not as good as doing other things from behind in the corner.

ordering the coffee in French is a fast track to suaveness tbh, she must speak some English for the small talk and rejection after.
