Which PS3 to buy?

Planning on picking one of these up at the weekend, already got a 360 and when i bought it i found out that i had an old Falcon model and not the newer Jasper ..

Anyway when i buy the PS3 slim is their anything i should look out for to make sure i have the latest model, or are all slims the same?

A slims' a slim at the moment, there is only one chipset revision on the market at this present time (and the next one isn't due for months yet). There are two models, but the only difference is the hard drive size (and both can be swapped out for standard laptop harddrives).

Also as it stands the failure rate is low for the PS3 slim, the whole chipset obsession only came about due to the rather poor initial revisions of the 360. In short, i wouldn't worry.

Actually there are 2 types of Slim although you're probably right in that only one is currently on sale unless some stores still have stock left over from before March 2010.

The redesigned PS3 that came out last September had the 45nm Cell and the 65nm RSX chip, there was a revision in March this year which saw the RSX cut to 40nm so I guess it's not impossible for stores to still have stock in a few months ago although I'm just being pedantic and it's very unlikely the OP will pick up the one with the revised graphics chip. Not that it would make any difference whatsoever.

i dont suppose their is anyway to know which one it is when i buy it?

I had been looking at a bundle with uncharted 2, is that relatively new, or old..

I bought a ps3 slim 120gb recently, on the side of the box there's a sticker the latest models will say

120gb slim = cech 2103a
250gb slim = cech 2103b

I had the Uncharted 2 bundled with my PS3 and that was back in January so I would've got one of the systems without the revised RSX chip as they were released in March. To be honest though whatever you get will at least have a manufacturers warranty on it, not to mention whatever consumer rights you have as well so if in the unlikely even anything does happen to the PS3 you'll probably be able to get it replaced low cost / free.
