I love the way you seem so bothered about the mileage (which is pretty low) yet don't seen at all bothered about the fact its 13 years old!

I love the way you ( not just you, I was stumped how people can call iands Accord a ''banger'') bring this up as a point a lot, just because it's old it doesn't mean it's an unreliable POS. I get the feeling from your posts that you consider most cars over 10 years a heap and an invitation for big bills.

A banger is a car like a suzuki swift from 1989 with every panel in a different color and a door that is stuck closed or some opel cadett from 89 that fails its emissions ( CO percentage) test and sometimes fails to start or a mondeo with every single corner taped over or a crack in every corner of the bumper and several large sides dents and the doors looking like uneven mountains instead of like a smooth surface from the door dings... Not a ''98 Honda accord or a ''97 VW Golf. OR well, actually, it's just the condition that matters, sure, the chance of a worse condition is bigger on an older car, but to assume a 13 year old car ( which imo is not old by any accounts) is a banger... No.

My point (Which I fully expected you to fail to grasp) is that at this price, neither age nor mileage matters. If you find a low mile car it'll be cancelled out by its age, if you find a newish car it'll be cancelled out by its mileage. It doesn't matter, its pure buy on condition territory.

It's a 3 door. 10 CD Disk changer and air con/climate control. Not leather though but i'm not too bothered about that.

Cousin, who works at a ford dealer, HPI checked it and it's clean. 5 owners and the current owner has had it since 2004.

The only thing externally bad about it is that there is some corrosion on those lovely BBS rims.

Only thing that is really stopping me at the moment is the insurance.

only 5 owners and previous owner having it for 6 years would indicate this is a good one. i would use the wheels as ammo to knock the price down. see the wheel refurb thread and see what can be done, they can be saved and brought back to life for less than £300 i would think and would advise doing this as opposed to going for some aftermarket ones. no leather is in no way a deal breaker either. they are heavy cars so expect some components to have suffered. i would advise replacing the suspension with a 35mm drop or even some coilovers. by the sounds of it, this is one that is worth spending a bit of money on and get it to its original glory

The car hadn't been on it's patch for the last few days so thought i'd give the guy a ring and see if it was till for sale and to ask a few question.

I asked if the timing chains/bushes had been changed and he didn't have a clue. He'd said he's only had it for three weeks which suggests to me he hasn't registered it yet. He said he got it off a woman but when i was talking to my cousin it was registered to a guy. Not sure if the HPI check shows if it's a man or a woman who has it. Why would he be wanting to get rid of it so quickly, he rushingly said that he's got a new GTi Golf. Did he get it for a cut price and he's wanting to make a profit or is there something more sinister to it?

I asked if it's got a full service history to which he replied "Nah", he seemed to falter at this question and then said "If it did it would be like two grand, innit". Not sure what to think now. When looking at auto trader they all seem to go for this sort of money when they're over 100k.

May still go and have a look at it but seems a bit dodgy.

attitude of a car salesman, he has no feelings towards the car other than it's a unit to shift. it's HPI clear which is good, have a good visual inspection and test drive and make your own mind up, you'll know if you want it or not and if you get the slightest inclination of something dodgy about it, just walk away

The impression I get of the seller is just as important as impression I get of the car. If it were me I would walk away.
