Hey guys

About 3 years ago I bought a Samsung 32 inch HD ready tv, I read a few reviews at the time and they said it was hard to notice a difference between 1080 and 720 on a screen so small. I went over to a mates and his 32 LG full hd looked so much better. We were playing fifa on the xbox. Is it just me or can you notice a difference?

I'm going to get a new Tele, prob an LG full hd 32 or 37 <£400. I'm about 3 metres from the tv, 37 overkill?

37" will be fine, probably will seem too small even after awhile.

The Xbox 360 and PS3 don't have any 1080p native games (well i say any, but 99.999% are 720p. Virtua Tennis and one or two others are 1080p despite what it says on the back of the game boxes), so you will not see any difference going from 720p to 1080p. I found it actually worse playing 360/PS3 games at 1080p as it upscales the image. Now I use a 720p plasma and they look great.

Interesting! Hmm, makes me think it might be my tv image settings! I'm going to see of I can find some for my model. I'm pretty sure that the LG was incredible in comparison, even the standard definition freeview! You're making me doubt it all! Surely more pixels will just make it look better anyway?

Not sure about games, but it's borderline for movies/TV. I looked at both a 720 and a 1080 32" and couldn't really see any difference. I went for the 1080 simply because it would bug me only having 720.....even if I couldn't really see the difference :)

As said above, I doubt the game was actually running in 1080p so probably only resized, I think the issue may have been image processing and filters etc that made it look better, imo

37 inch is probably fine at that distance wouldn't say it was overkill.

What annoys me with tv's is 720p sets are usually 1366*768 which means it has to scale the picture anyway from 1280*720, wheras 1080p sets don't, surely a set scaling 720p content 1.5 times would be better than one scaling 1.067 times?

I don't think a 37" would be too small, I sit 3m away from my 32" set and it feels tiny now, although it is completely surrounded by shelves so looks even smaller.

I picked up a 32" inch 720p LG for around £300, can be had for £250 now. I sit a fair distance away and Im very happy with it for films and games. Also with a bit of firmware trickery it also plays divx/mkv etc through the usb port.

what models that?

or

LG 42LH3000 42 inch LCD TV 1080p HD Ready Freeview for £399.

you can never have to big a tv!!!

Where can I pick one up at the price? I'm on my phone so I've searched but I'm not being lazy! Yeah, I've only compared my tele to that 32inch LG and a 40 inch full hd samsung (redish one). Xbox generally looked far far sharper and more awesome on both, even just navigating through the dashboard!

Tempted to get a £380 LG 37 inch from a high street a/v store.

Thanks for hearing me out!

not sure I can say properly because of competitors. "more money noise2 or google "LG 42LH3000 42 inch LCD TV 1080p HD Ready Freeview"

Thanks, managed to find it!

I've googled settings for my TV to see if it would improve it and I've changed some of settings and I think that the picture looks a lot better - may be psychological though!

I did the same, works very nicely!

THought I would ask my question in this thread, as it kind of relates.

Currently have a 1080p Technika 32inch tv, but have been offered a Sony Bravia KDL-32S5500 which is only 720p for £100. We watch the occasional blu-ray, but most often it is Sky HD and the Wii that get used. Dad has offered to take the technika off my hands for the same price, and I am tempted as the Sony should be a better TV, but, would I notice the difference between 1080p and 720p when watching a blu-ray, sat about 3 meters away?

I can't even notice a difference between 720p and 1080p on a 40" Sony Bravia TV. I doubt you will notice a difference from 3 meters away, especially on 32".

What have you been watching? the detail lost from a good blu ray transfer (Wall-e for example) when veiwing at 720p is noticable in my opinion. Its still miles better than SD obviously.

Dont forget that 720p is under 1 million individual pixels. 1080p is more than double that.

3m is 9 1/2ft. that's further than the recommend distance for a 50" @ 1080p, let alone a 40" or 32". he's quite right in what he says - most people wouldnt notice the difference in the slightest and i'd challenge anybody who says they can
