I have a PS3 connected to a Sony home cinema amp using an optical toslink cable for 5.1 audio. I'm just building an HTPC and also want to connect this to the amp using the board's optical out and another toslink cable. Is there any kind of splitter I can buy to run these 2 audio outputs into 1 amp input? Don't really wanna keep fumbling behind my TV to swap cables!

I believe you can get switches for optical connections, I'm fairly sure you can even get some that are remote controlled (handy if you've got something like a Harmony remote that can switch automatically when you change the "activity").

+1

i believe these switches will slightly compromise image quality unless you go for the digitally controled versions. Just to ask, is it possible to use an adapter to change one connection to a different type allowing you to plug moth in directly? you could then use the amps switch to control what you see

I had an optical switch to for plugging my 360 and PS3 into my amp, it was useless, I was plagued with poor connections and other issues. The best fix I found in the end was to use an optical splitter in reverse, it works fine as long as you don't have both devices that are plugged into it on at the same time.

e.g. If I have my 360 OR my PS3 on the sound works beautifully, if I have them both on I get no sound at all.
