Hey chaps

I'm going to go for a indian/curry for my 21st with a bunch of mates but unfortunately I have recently been told I'm lactose intolerant. (bane of my life)

I was wondering if there are any curries out there that don't use cream / milk?

I know some use coconut milk which is fine!

Thanks in advance.

Most don't use cream. Think you'd be pretty safe with bhuna, dopiaza, rogan josh, ceylon, kashmiri, vindaloo even a korma shouldn't be made with cream.

If you dont mind some heat very few if any of the hotter ones use anything like cream or milk. Something like a rogan josh, madras, jalfrezzi also birianis. Basically if you avoid the sweeter milder curries you should be fine

Most of them don't!

Best to check with the owner when you order but you'll have a fair selection to choose from :)

Great news!! I thought almost every curry was made with milk! I've got to say I prefer the milder currys though which probably won't work in my favor.

I know the naan breads contain yogurt but it's so minimal that i can probably get away with it :)

Any suggestions on starters that almost contain no dairy?

Ask the waiter. Or read the menu.

Very much doubt the menu will tell me what products contain dairy.

I'll obviously give the restaurant a call before hand and ask to speak to the chef for 1 min but thought it would be wise to get an idea what I can / can't eat here first.

Tbh almost all curry contains clarified butter (same as naan), but most of the lactose is removed in the clarification process.

They should do. Or if not butter then they almost certainly have milk in.
They have tiny amounts of milk in if any. There are other breads you can order that will contain no milk or any other dairy such as Puri.

I can't stand intolerance of any kind, it's so ignorant. What's lactose ever done to you?

I take it that if you're 21 and have only just found out that you're intolerant, that it's not the most serious thing in the world. Is there scope for just going out and enjoying yourself for one night and forgetting about it? What actually happens when you have milk? Runny poos etc? Cause you'll probably have that anyway after a night on the raz :D.

I'm guessing this is a joke...

Not really, makes me feel ill for a week or so, would rather avoid it
