New EVGA GTX 470 SC, to RMA or not to RMA?

Just took delivery of an EVGA GTX 470 SC (high airflow) but it was fitted with the regular back plate and not the high airflow version. The additional bracket is on the PCB however. I rang OCUK and they said EVGA have fitted the wrong part at the factory and I will have to contact EVGA to replace the card.

Naturally I am more than a little annoyed at having to RMA a brand new product. So question is, if ayone has experience with this card, does the high airflow bracket actually make a significant difference to the cooling on this card? The OCUK guy I spoke to said it probably makes little difference and I am tempted to just use the card as is. I can do without the time, expense and hassle of returning what is presumably a perfectly working card.

It's my first Fermi so not sure if the heat issues are as serious as some review sites make out.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yeah, I could push with OCUK but then have the delay of waiting for them to stock the correct model. Probably quicker to deal with EVGA directly. Just not sure if the high airflow bracket will really deliver the -7 C vs reference that EVGA claim. If the difference is negligible in practice then not too fussed and may as well run what I've got. Dunno...?

at the end of the day the card is no different to the zotac except slightly and i mean marginally higher clocks...but it costs some 75 more?

madness to keep it imo!

The increase in clock speeds amount to pretty much nothing. It was the improved cooling that caught my attention. That and have had EVGA cards in the past and have been reliable. Have no experience with Zotac or other cheap brands so it was better the devil you know kind of thing.

I'll see about sending it back to OCUK tomorrow. I don't imagine it will be a problem but irritating when it's a brand new item. Was looking forward to putting this card through it's paces but I'll have to be patient.

zotac arent really a cheap brand, they offer 5 year warranty and a good package usually.. it just so happens that the zotac is the cheapest available 470 at the moment but dont confuse them with ppl like cut corners palit over there!

Well I have 3 of the "regular" eVGA GTX470 SC cards and the temps are actually pretty good considered they're all stacked :)
