Hi guys,

It's been a while now since I've updated my rig. However I have decided to go for graphics card at the end of the month.

I really need some fps boost but the budget is limited. The main reason for the new card is that I would like to enjoy the smoothness of the FPS in 1 old school game and BF bad company that I haven't tried yet.

My current rig is:

EE6600 2.4 overclocked at 2.8
2 gb of ram
Ati 2900XT 512mb
Gigabyte DDR2 775 mobo
Corsair 550W PSU,
Belinea 22inch 1650x

I know that my cpu might slow down the process however I believe I will still feel the difference with the new graphics card.

I was looking at: XFX ATI Radeon HD 5830 1024MB GDDR5 , so the I've got 2 questions.

1. Is it really worth it, will I feel the difference I need?

2. Is is quite? 2900XT has been giving me a headache for last 2 years, I would like to find something very silent and in the mean time able to cool the card down. (no water cooling plz)

Thanks in advance,

V.

Get gtx 460, make sure you pick the one with 2 fans to ensure it is quiet.

and avoid at all cost palit 460, no vram heatsink, very noise, very hot.

There is really not point in buying 5830 seen as 460 is far better card.

You can concider 5850 its better than 460 but is a little bit more pricey, specially the Direct CU ones, although they are quiet and cool.

but overall, get gtx 460, and again make sure you pick a good cooled one, like gigabyte 2 fans one, but it is not released yet.

If your mainly playing bad company 2 I'd take an ai card as it runs much better on them, f you use the right drivers that is. If your gaming on more than just that game in the forseeable future then i'd take a 460. The 5830 isn't a very good card unless it drops to about 120 quid unfortunatly. Anoher option is to find a second hand 5850, there's a couple on MM going cheap now after the price cuts.

If you are going to get the GTX460 be sure to get the 768mb model, it's a bit faster then the HD5830 but costs a lot less then the full fat 1gb model which retails for £200 which price wise puts it in the same boat as the faster HD5850.

I'm using a 5770 and it runs almost all things very well, depending on what resolution you'll be using. Reasonable pricing and to upgrade in future you could cross fire a pair and have 5870 performance?

For example using a 5770 with my amd 965 and 4gb ram I play starcraft 2 maxed out no problems. Also munches through mass effect, avp etc. Think a 5770 will do you well mate and can be had on the members' market for reasonable price, fairly quiet too!

And again, thanks to all your recommendations!

Any idea when it will be available? Looks like this might be the one I could go for, but only if I will be able to get the one with 2 fans to ensure it is not too noisy.

Thanks chaps,
