Who do the USA think they are ?
I am getting more and more aware that they are allowed to do and say what they like.
Why are they now questioning the release of the Lybian for the scottish prison, this is a UK decission and has nothing to do with the US.
Do we as a nation ever question what the US does and ask for a detailed investigation, and summon members of congress ? they would just laugh in our faces.
Also what does NK have to do with them too ? They go around poking their nose into other countries business and telling other what they can do.

your thoughts ?

I don't like the USA poking their nose in but it was a frankly shocking decision, total mistake. If England won't put pressure on the Scotts I am glad someone is.

Americans are becoming more and more reviled on the world stage. I'm finding it hard to like them to be honest. I thuoght Obama would help clear away their reputation for stupidity after Bush's 2 terms, but the way his administration has twisted the BP fiasco makes my cynical about them too.

I think the Libyan release was a Scottish Parliament decision by the way, not a UK one. I could be wrong, though.

It's kinda the benefit of being the dominant world superpower, being able to boss countries around and ignore others when it suits - back in the days of the Empire we used to do it a fair bit too :p

It wasn't a UK decision, it was a Scottish decision and was made purely to stick two fingers up to the Westminster government.

It was also a disgrace.

I've been to the US a few times, and I think that normally most people are perfectly nice, but I really don't like their international politics and attitude as you say. Also, when things even get a hint of going bad, the darn yanks shoot their mouth off at you right away, they can be so rude and obnoxious if it's not going their way.

I'm tired of the 'special relationship' we have with them, we've been taken for a ride by Labour, and I hope that the new coalition realises this.

but why does the US have to get involved ? why not let SK sort it out
Nk and Iran are told they must stop their nuclear program, yet the US have one of if not the biggest nuke arsenal in the world.
I understand they are not the rsort of countries you want messing with nuke power, but again, why is it the US calling all the shots, sanctions here, sanctions there.

Obama is Just Another American President. You'd have thought he was the second coming of Christ the way people were going on. Foolish in the extreme.

He has to do this to appease stupid Americans. The reality behind closed doors is that he knows that the disaster could have happened to anyone, and that BP are doing all they can to resolve the situation. Not all companies would have voluntarily surrendered their limited financial obligation for the cleanup operation.

I totally agree with the comment that they would laugh if the UK tried to summon congress to answer questions about, for example, the torturing of UK citizens at Guantanamo Bay.

I think being America's bitch has more pros that cons.

While we are on the subject. Can someone please explain why Goldman Sachs have paid back a German bank the full amount owed from their dodgy dealings? And yet only a fraction of what was owed to RBS?

exactly

but, im betting, jack straw and BP will go the the US, and answer to them

im thinking there is more to this, why now ? i understand all the americans are ****** off with the release of the lybian, but why start this debate now ? is it to pull BP into the frame some more for causing heartache on the US and possbily finishing them off ?

its not asif BP havent done all they can to clean up this Oil spill, whats with the VP of the US going on a visit to the gulf coast and billing BP $75K for the trip ? since when does it cost $75k to go from the one part of the US to another ?

My thoughts are BP are in the frame for a reaming

Obama is just looking for another reason to keep up the pressure on BP over the oil spill given Obama's low approval rating.

The UK government doesn't want to hurt the UK/US trade so blames the Scottish parliament for the decision even though it was obvious that deals were made with Libya over access to their oil and helping with the release. Kenny MacAskill even stated they didn't get the prisoner transfer due to "murky" dealings and that the release decision was purely on medical grounds.

Cameron just comes across as being very weak when dealing with the US in his current trip when at least our local politicians are telling the US it's a matter for Scottish justice and we don't answer to them.

The dominant world superpower policing the world.

A US airliner got blown out of the sky, 190 of its citizens were murdered and the Scots freed the scumbag Libyan terrorist who killed them. That is enough reason.

Just their involvement in a war and the stability of the region.

When we summon American servicemen for inquests into friendly fire incidents that kill British soldiers do they turn up? Do they balls. The Scottish government have explained themselves via the media they don't need to be summoned to a Senate inquiry like an errant schoolboy in front of the Dean of Discipline for US senators to deliver the grandstanding equivalent of six-of-the-best.

The worst part is, I think the decision to release Al-Megrahi was wrong, the US government's attitude deflecting attention away from that and making the Scottish government look heroic for taking what was a cowardly decision.

It was probably based at least in part on perceived ability to swallow the loss. Pure conjecture mind.

The local politicians aren't the ones over there. It's easier for some local politician to talk big from behind their constituency desk.
