I guess the GTX 460 is a 5830 killer?

All the usual places I checked are selling for over £150 including vat, so if you want to compare the 5830 in general to the 460 it's not fair doing it at £140 because it just isnt selling for that price.

but thats not what i said, i said IF you get one for £140 then its competative as its cheaper and performs roughly as well, therefore its not been killed by anything.

if you cannot google your way there, then it is not my fault..

so whats worth buying then a HIS 5830 or a palit gtx460?

From OcUK stock? Must be GTX 460, it's cheaper and performs roughly the same (or slightly better but within 5% margin). Overclocks just as well so go for the cheapest option.

Found 5830 selling for £140 delivered, cheapest 460 are £150 delivered atm. But they were selling for £145 some time ago.

BTW Radeon 5830 was a misplaced card when it was released at £200 price tag here in the UK. Now it's a better performing card than 5770 with a slightly higher price mark. It scales well in Crossfire and should be easily taken into account by anyone who's looking for the card in this price range.

For retail prices to move much I think the 5750 and 5770 would need to fall in price a little.

Looking at the amount of sub £150 HD5830's available I think its only a matter of time before sales of the 5700's are effected enough for a price adjustment.

i hate to break this to you.. but the gtx 460 768 is gimped as well:/ small memory interface and only 24 rops compared to the 1GB versions 32... yes the 5830 has less still but to claim that the 5830 is gimped but to not mention the 768 as being gimped too, doesnt strike me as fair.

5830 is a few FPS better than a 5770 and consumes more power than a 5850, it's the stupidest card release for a long while but kind of understandable as AMD are just using chips that don't make the 5850/70 grade, 460 on the other hand once clocked beats out a 5850 and from user gameplays I have seen of the 460 on utube the card rocks.

of lesser spec than the performance parts...

so a 768 gtx 460 doesnt just have less memory than the 1GB version. it has a lower memory bus interface, and less shaders and less rops. hence it will always perform worse clock for clock..

But the 5850 at the same price can be clocked to 5870 speeds.

Unless the 1GB 460 is 150 I don't see any point in buying one unless its brand loyalty.

That's the thing, there is a reason people go Nvidia, better game support, more features associated with Nvidia cards, and IMO currently better driver support, sometimes that's enough to sway people over a few FPS gains in some games. The guy below benching a 460 @ 850Mhz, it's not much slower than my 5870 at stock.

OR if u have a HDMi 1080p screen as the Ati drivers are really nasty in terms of allowing 1080p....

i had to do all kinds of jiggery pokery, such as creatin custom 1076p resolutions and adding them into my game config files to stop dx 10 games from dropping to 50hz refresh rates.

also with some ati drivers in COH when flame throwers were used, the textures would all go black, except for the flames same with nebelwerfers and DOT too.

thats why i overspent on my gtx 460 to ensure i did not have these niggly problems biting the back of my brain when i played,

also CCC crashes reported in event viewer,

An overclocked 5830 should match~ a 5850. For £140~ that makes it a very decent card.

How would an overclocked GTX460 768Mb compare ?
