*Official OMG I got my 460 thread*

@ The Bass: They always overstate the power supply to account for all the crap brands out there that can barely output 2/3 of their rated wattage. Anandtech have the total system power draw for the 1GB card at 290w (Crysis) and 330w (Furmark), that's on an overclocked i7-920 test system with 6GB of RAM.

So depending on the quality of your PSU and the number of components it's powering, you might need an upgrade or you might not.
Thanks, that sounds a lot more positive. How are Dell's PSU's generally? It's 2 years old now so it won't be in it's prime but I don't keep it on 24/7.

yes i agree with porksoda, i just meant i couldnt really advise just going for it because if anything were to fail (worst case fried psu) then it would be user error. I think most ppl would agree that a stock 460 would probably work and be stable on 375w but as Porksoda mention the quality of psu is important as a cheaper brand may not stand upto being stressed over long periods

Who knows, trial and error is the only way, rule things out one at a time. Though it's very unlikely that both your graphic cards have developed the exact same fault.

It may not even be hardware, I'd definately rule out all potential software issues first, try new drivers, even try older ones, before diving into the full windows reinstall.

LOL, it seems that the problem might have been caused by dodgy hdmi connection! It wasn't in securely and after connecting it properly I haven't had any problems so far, touch wood.

I still can't get the sound to work though, could anyone help with this? Since I installed the card I get a message that there's an uninstalled pci device but it can't find the drivers for it. The hd audio drivers are installed though??

Dell PSU's are probably OK in my opinion, they won't be as good as a Seasonic/Corsair etc.. but it will probably be capable of at least close to it's rated wattage. 2 years old is nothing, the main thing that will degrade a PSU over time is the electrolytic capacitors drying up (they have a conductive liquid inside that slowly evaporates) but that happens over a longer period, usually 6-8 years or so, a lot longer if they are good.

My advice would be to get one of those cheap wall socket power draw monitors, they are accurate enough for this kind of testing. That way you can get a GTX460, install it and see what draw your particular setup has. If it's too close for comfort you can always return the GTX460 for a refund and get a 5770. You'd loose out on the return shipping of £5 or so, but at least you'll know for sure.

What is your current setup btw?

Can anyone offer any advice based on their experience with the 460 or anything they've read from others? My PC has an E8400 and 2 HDD's if that helps approximations. Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Fan noise, I've had my 8800GT on 70% for the last month keeping it on life support and I've now grown used to it :p.

I've just changed from an 8800GT to Inno3D 1Gb 460. On the Windows desktop running 2 monitors the total system power was:-

171 watts (8800GT) and it's now 165 (GTX460).
Furmark went from 256 (8800GT) to 280 (GTX460)

Thanks for the advice, I have an E8400 3GHz, Nvidia 8800GT, 1TB Samsung F3 & 500GB whatever it came with, Dell 420 motherboard, 3GB DDR2 and Intensity Pro capture card.

With an i7? Nice, what are your other specs? Seems like I should be able to make it :).

Currently i7 920 running at 3.33GHz. I've kept the old 8800GT for now as a physx card. Even with that in as well, total system usage is 330 watts when running furmark on the 460 card.

Hi, out of curiosity what brand is your card? nice OC btw!
The cheapest one I could find with the reference cooler, it's the non-cyclone MSI one, and I paid £150. More afterburner action:

I'm happy with those clocks, though the fan is starting to become audible at that speed. At default clocks it's almost silent (40% fan) and stays under 50°.

Good clocks.

Damn, these 460's OC well!

yes hopefully ill review for you all when it arrives...

Noashan - is yrs a 1GB or a 768? 150 is a very low price for a 1gb

Dutchguy, see that review there says the Zotac the noisiest like i thought whereas guru3d have it quieter than the reference model?!

what i dont understand is why all the vendors have created their own option which are all worse than the reference design (barring say the MSI and Giga ones)...take a look at the gtx 470 market and there are only 1 or 2 non reference models... take a look at gtx 460 and there is only 1 reference model i can see available (in 1GB) thats like the sparkle..

Maybe Nvidia give reference coolers to manufacturers with the GXT 470 but only gives bare PCB's with the GTX 460 ??

just got my EVGA SC version, and its fantastic, quiet and blasts through my games.
But it comes with a 10 year warrenty and i can't seem to find the UK site to register it? Any ideas?
