We hate FIFA's dev team; every year we write about how they've perfected virtual football, how each new iteration of the series is the best yet, and then every year they go and trump themselves spectacularly, leaving us looking rather stupid in the process.

And so it is with FIFA 11; while the progression from FIFA 10 isn't as superficially vast as it has been in previous years, the suite of subtle additions make its game for a more convincing take on the sport than before, and one that plays with a wonderful flow and instinct. We're not going to say that it makes FIFA 10 look poor, but having played FIFA 11 our lunchtime sessions with last year's game are often spent yearning to get our hands on this year's model.

So what's different? We've gone over the headline new features before, but it's worth a quick recap. Pro Passing brings the manual passing that's been an option in the series for some time to the fore, tweaking it to ensure it's still an exercise in fun for less experienced players. Slotting the ball to other players is now more reliant on context – trying to spray it around with abandon is now a less fruitful option, and in the team's own parlance it puts an end to the 'ping-pong passing' of previous FIFAs. It's now important to think before laying the ball on, and the game benefits hugely as a result.

Personally I can't wait for this years FIFA. I know it comes under EA's umbrella of GENERIC SPORT IN CAPS 2011, but there's something about FIFA games that I means I just can't stop playing them.

I just hope PES brings it's A-Game this year, as it's been pretty stale for a few years now.

Just read this on IGN. I can't wait for it and looking forward to see how(if) they have improved online clubs.

Can't wait for this! Should be awesome. Just hope for improved MM.

Same, manage mode was a step up last year but still lacks a lot of features.

The fatigue levels still aren't right, it's slow and unresponsive at times on the main menu (when going down it has to load the league table and it takes a second... it's not long but it's noticable lag and stops you form moving).

Loan players don't develop properly, loaning players out of your club counts towards transfers, even if they're a no-name players. For those that don't know, you can only make so many transfers in a window before the director says "The team has changed too much, and the balance is lost... we can't approve any more transfers".

Definitely want them to sort out the manager mode, especially the budgets. I got Carlisle to the Premier League, won it back to back and the Champions League to boot and I still couldn't sign anyone decent because I couldn't offer decent wages.

Can't wait for this though and I'll be purchasing it day one. Wish PES would pull its finger out because I used to love master league mode.

Yeah that's a right pain that...easiest thing to do is to set ticket sales to high and invest all your money into stadium builds and get a good sponsor with a high win bonus.

You should make around 500k per game if you win then.

I think I read they got rid of Manager Mode and Be a Pro mode and have combined them into a Career mode where you can be player, player manager or just manager. I'm sure its in the Eurogamer preview.

I think your right actually, there's a lot less chat about MM/BaP now and most sites seem to be calling everything "Career Mode"

I can't see the point in offering just a manager mode though, surely that would defeat the point in having the FIFA Manager series?
