Best films of the decade??

Iron Man in the best films of the decade?

Different type of viewers have different kinds of films. Some people don't look to get anything more out of films than face value entertainment.

As for me, there's too many of the top of my head to put into here but one film that I absolutely loved and was a sleeper hit for me was In Bruges.

should have done a serach :o anyway just remembered two other amazing films!

28 days later - insane
28 weeks later - just as good!!
Urrr... :p

Whilst I would say that 28 Days Later is one of the best British films ever made, 28 Weeks Later is flat out, one of the worst ever made. It's all opinion though, obviously. ;)

For me, I would say that, and it maybe somewhat cliché that my top films would be (in no particular order):

Taken
The Bourne Ultimatum
The Dark Knight
Inception
Inglorious ********
Up
Wall-E
The Incredibles

There are too many fantastic films to list, but there are some.

It's also worth nothing that we're STILL in the first decade of the current century. The second decade with begin next year. :)

Little Miss Sunshine, Sideways, Oldboy, all of Nolans work thus far, Inglorious ********, No Country for Old Men, O Brother, Where Art Thou? Shaun of the Dead, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the LOTR trilogy, the Borune Trilogy, The Orphanage...the list goes on.

Yes, of course it's all opinion. It's all entirely subjective but surely that argument is a complete cop out? What is the point in going through life not challenging other peoples opinions and trying to change them? You aren't just friends with people you agree with all the time, right?

I hate that argument "it's just opinion". Yes, how observant. How about you explain yours and see if you can change their mind?

Controversial. 28 Days Later is a very good film, 28 Weeks Later just seemed confused and well, simply not very good, either alone or in comparison.

Iron Man in the best films of the decade?

I was more surprised by the inclusion of Doomsday in the list, while I enjoyed the film (staring at Rhona Mitra's pert form for the better part of an hour is not exactly a chore) it's not a great film by any stretch.

Dead Man's Shoes is one I probably should have mentioned before, This Is England is worthy of note and Children Of Men was pretty good from what I remember of it. Charlie Wilson's War is another that I enjoyed very much despite having no real hopes for it before watching.

I mostly quoted that because I really can't stand when people start to use rolly eyes without a hint of being helpful.

As for changing his opinions, I can't see a point since the man also had Doomsday in his list :p

Iron Man in the best films of the decade?

Why not? Obviously my best films are going to be different to yours so theres no need to be an arse about it.

If you dont want to hear other peoples ideas for the best films, just go here and enjoy it set out on a platter for you.

I love that type of film so for me it was an easy choice. I thought it was a great film.

I feel like I should do a more complete list of my favourite films.

LoTR trilogy
Inception
300 (actually love that film, despite all its shortcomings)
The Dark Knight
Iron Man 1/2
Star Trek
House of Flying Daggers
Hero

Yes I am a special effects junky.

Hangover is ok, nothing special imo.
I don't really like animated films that much, so don't care for anything Pixar releases.

Because Iron Man 2 was dire? It was no more than a CGI fest. I've always argued that there are those that go to the cinema for no more than all out entertainment (which is fine ) and those who go looking for an experience, when I finished watching Iron Man 2 I couldn't care less about the storyline or the characters.

By the decade I'm going to assume you mean the last 10 years and not the decade as of 2010>

Here are my favorite films of the last 10 years.

LOTR Trilogy
Revolutionary Road
The Prestige
The Dark Knight
In Bruges
City of God
Fight Club
Crash
Downfall
Kill Bill
Inglourious ********
Million Dollar Baby
Sin City
Hunger
The Departed
Pan's Labyrinth.

Many, many more...

So, Iron Man is rubbish because it had a poor sequel? Non sequitur much?

What a brilliant reason for a film to be rubbish. Hahaha. I think you are living in the wrong age.

Having just graduated with a degree in film that must be the answer.

I prioritize storyline, character development, screenplay and acting above CGI.

Unfortunately, the majority don't. (you by the looks of things)

I couldn't care less if that's your preference, I don't want to get in to the argument of all out entertainment vs screenplay.

Couldn't really care for either of the Iron Man films, they did nothing for me.

I think you need to work on wording your posts with what you actually mean. What you had written sounded like you didnt care about storyline and characters, and it was just a CGI fest which you didnt like either. Maybe write something like 'Film was a CGI fest which meant there was no real storyline or character background'

Anyhow i dont even know what you're on about i thought both films had a storyline and the characters had plenty of info.

Dead Man's Shoes
Waltz With Bashir
Mulholland Drive
Moon
Into The Wild
Downfall
No Country For Old Men
The Prestige
Sin City
The Departed
Pan's Labyrinth
The Constant Gardener
The Machinist
Requiem for a Dream
Memento
City of God
Amelie
Gladiator
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Avatar
District 9
Inception

Couldn't really care for either of the Iron Man films, they did nothing for me.

But they did for many others.

I like my film, and I know the difference from good and bad. Iron Man isn't the most pretentious or deep film to ever grace our screens, but due to the subject matter itself, it never was going to be. For what it was though, it was fun and what it did, it did well. It made grown men across the country regress to childhood and wish they could be superheroes again. For that reason alone, it deserves a mention.

No I don't, I've articulated my argument as intended. I made a clear distinction between my preferences. I have no problem with CGI but I do have a problem when it is prioritized over the more important elements of film making. CGI should enhance a film, it shouldn't sell a film.

Maybe write something like 'Film was a CGI fest which meant there was no real storyline or character background'

I thought the words 'no more than' would have given that away.

Did you not read this?

I've always argued that there are those that go to the cinema for no more than all out entertainment (which is fine ) and those who go looking for an experience

I see films of that nature as a bit of fun, something I'll forget about after I leave the cinema. Like I said, for many that is more than enough to warrant their admission fee.

Here is the conclusion from my dissertation on Michael Haneke

Production teams within Hollywood are far from foolish; they are just as aware as Haneke, or debatably even more aware, of the ongoing abyss within mainstream cinema. The distinction between Haneke and Hollywood is apparent in how they address the abyss. Mainstream cinema deliberately chooses to welcome and conform to it because consumption is the preference at the box office juxtaposed to provocation.

Haneke argues that Hollywood’s strive for audience satisfaction has never been the function of drama, stating that his films incorporate audience manipulation raping the viewer into interaction with the narrative. In doing so, empowering his audience to recognise their role in the ‘game of manipulation’ and relate it to their personal life experiences.

Haneke acknowledges raising more ‘insistent’ questions than ‘false’ answers at the conclusion of a film goes against the ‘consensus’ of the majority, this demonstrates that his productions do not prioritize audience satisfaction. Mainstream cinema’s emphasis on audience satisfaction has resulted in a ‘consumable commodity’ in which ‘going to the movies’ is part of mass culture. The ‘aesthetic of astonishment’ provides the audience with a spectacle of entertainment, guaranteeing box office success.

With reference to mass culture, art critic Clement Greenberg states that mainstream cinema:

Predigests art for the spectator and spares him the effort, provides him with a shortcut to the pleasures of art that detours what is necessarily difficult in genuine art
