Hi Guys

Picked up a 24" 2.66ghz model last weekend.... Absolutely love it, picked up some nice tips and recommendations on software from here already (Skitch....what a cracking app) but every time I restart my screen is very bright and I have to turn the brightness down, anyway to save the settings?

Also I want to purchase a 500gb time machine backup external drive, should I be going for a firewire solution or just usb?

Yes why?

Good point, there are a few models that have both, to be fair the backup speed won't be an issue as it won't be going far from my desk.....

He probably thought you meant a brand new purchase of an iMac - which obviously aren't available in 24". :p

I would recommend the Western Digital drives that offer multiple connections but USB 2 should be sufficient enough for Time Machine.

Ah ha, I've had a few glasses of wine and thought i'd made a mistake somewhere lol... it's 8 months old but in mint condition, just need to add some more apple care before the first year expires..

I thought usb would be fine to be fair just wanted to be sure... Will check out the WD offers.. ;)

Sorry did anyone have any suggestions regarding the screen brightness? It's blinding when it first turns on every time :(

Yup that what I though as i am wanting a new iMac but thinking waiting for the refresh I have set a limit of 1400k.

Hard drive I am using western digital myself using FireWire 800 on my 3 hrs old mbp. And it does it job very well

I have a seagate free-agent and it has both usb and fire-wire,

it's white and silver so matches my iMac and functions perfectly well as a time-machine over fire-wire 800

click displays in sysy prefs and there should be a brightness slider in there, with a tick box to adjust for ambient. Un tick the ambient and set your preference.

I paid a little more than that for my 27" i5 with 8gb and 3 years apple care and love it it's a brilliant machine
