Hi

I would like to give my graphics a boost but really don't don't want to spend a fortune at the moment, is it worth picking up a second cheap 4870 and running crossfire or would that just be a waste of cash?
Also kinda forgot how crossfire works a bit, I have a 512mb version at the moment if I ended up picking up a cheap 1Gb would it work and would it use all the memory or would it just use 512mb to match the other card?

Many Thanks

I saw a great boost from a 4870 to my X2 card so I expect you'll see the same. The 4870 1gb will scale down to 512mb to match though.

Thanks for that now just gotta go find myself a cheap Second hand one. Any ideas where I could get a cheap one, people on fleebay still want £100 for them half the time but seen posts on here saying I should be able to pick one up for £60ish.

Any back to m GFX card, was just thinking can I pput a 4890 with my 4870, would that be any better than a second 4870?
Sorry just won't be able to upgrade again for a while so want to get the best out of this.

4890 will scale down to the 4870's settings if i remember correctly, as the 4870 can't force itself to run as fast as the 4890, so therefore you'll still be running basically 2 4870's, you can get the 4890 and put another one with that later on, or maybe just overclock the 4870, either way the more powerful card will be graded to what level of the slowest card that's in the motherboard.

Better off in my opinion buying a 2nd hand cheap 4870 that'll do the trick, save the rest of what you've got left then when you can afford it hit the 5 series.
