I'm not talking about being a salesman and selling electric, more technical roles. Such as reactor mechanics and design engineering at an existing nuclear plant or research centre.

Are you against nuclear energy?
What does your morals and ethics tell you about nuclear energy production in the UK?
Would you be comfortable knowing the by product of energy production goes into the UK nuclear deterrent?

Would you consider a career in the nuclear energy poduction industry? Why, why not?

I would have no problem whatsoever with it, and consider it as I would any other job.

I dont think it warrants all the fuss it gets, we might actually need it.

No problem what so ever.

You are more likely to receive more radiation on a long haul flight than working at a station.

Ethically I think more needs to be done re. disposal, but as we are likely to need nuclear, I think this will be sorted eventually.

No qualms whatsoever, in fact I'd love to work in a nuclear plant in a technical role (specifically Sector 7G :D), and with a program of plant building due to start in Cumbria soon, the chance could present itself.

This for me too. It's by-product is small and controllable. Sure it takes ages to become safe but I would rather cut carbon emissions.

well with future reactors the waste could well be used again.

The main problem with the waste is the hippy types who stopped all the storage programs years ago so now in many places it's stored above ground in facilities that where never deigned for the quantity or length of storage and so have leaks.

If they'd been able to build the underground things in the 70's they'd be much safer now (hell even gasifying it and dumping it at the bottom of ocean trenches would be better than many of the places atm.

I wouldnt have any problem working in the nuclear power generation industry at all, but I certainly wouldnt have anything to do with the weapons industry.

I was recently unemployed and was asked if I was interested in being put forward to work on missile guidance systems but I'm not interested in that sort of career. Designing things that has the sole purpose of killing people doesnt sit well with me.

My father-in-law is a reactor mechanic (not sure that's his exact job title) and has been for many years.

I'm all for nuclear energy :).

This,
and if the research wasn't stopped by stupid hippies with an IQ less than a fish.

we would be on generation 4 reactors.

Which not only consume all previous nuclear waste as fuel. But only leaves tiny amounts of waste itself which is also low radioactive, same grade as hospital waste.

nuclear energy is great. We need to build and embrace it. waste needs to be stored in a suitable location for a lifespan say of 200 years. By then we will of consumed it all in future 4 generation reactors.

Do you like paying tax knowing it is spent on nuclear deterrent?
I don't understand the question or the link. Nuclear deterrent is needed and I firmly believe makes the world a safer place, I have no doubt there would have been far more wars if it wasn't for nukes, since the end of ww2.

I would love to work in the Nuclear industry, just to do my bit. :)
It is the future. The sooner people stop thinking that every nuclear power station will be Chernobyl x 1 billion, the better.

I'd preferably work for a secret section that rounds up "green" protestors and locks them away.
Protestors and doom-mongers are spoiling the planet for everyone, the sooner they are taken care of, the sooner progress can be made.

People against nuclear power are as bad as the religious fundamentalists and tea party activists. It's the way they phrase their arguments in a massively alarmist way. The OP is a prime example of this.

Says it all.
