Would you work in the nuclear energy industry and why?

Here's a true story for y'all...

Guys working in a building fixing some cladding to a door frame. They have to drill into the door frame to create a pilot hole, but not wanting to drill too far through the wood they put maskin tape on the drill, so they don't damage whatever is on the other side of the wood.

In walks a fully trained health and safety lady. She approaches the work men and says sorry guys this job has to stop, it's just not safe for you to continue. You can't possibly think it's safe to use a drill which is held together will maskin tape... :o :D

I certainly would work in the nuclear industry. I studied Nuclear Reactor Engineering during my degree (Chemical Engineering) and found it really interesting - the University of Sheffield has a big nuclear research centre too. I think it has a big role to play in the future energy mix, especially if we can harness the extra heat from the 3rd/4th gen reactors to drive thermochemical cycles or high-temperature electrolysis.

I'd love too. Everything about nuclear physics intregues me. :)

Funny thing is, years ago my dad applied to work at a licenced site but was turned down due to having relatives in a former soviet occupied country... so went on to design IC's for missiles instead.

Yes, without hesitation. indeed, I've (a long time ago now) previously applied for a role in a nuclear power station.

Having worked in the gambling profession for 8 years would swiching to a career in the nuclear industry be considered a step closer to or back from hell?

Would have no qualms (I don't with current career choice) and as a nation/region/earth we need to get off our high horse and figure out just how we are going to power the world properly without using oil & gas.
