Steam accounts been hacked...

So on Thursday afternoon my steam account was hacked, I was playing some Alien Swarm one minute, the next I was logged off and unable to log back in. I sent steam a message and it was 10pm last night when I finally got a reply with a request for more information. I provided a proof of a paypal purchase in the initial email but have changed address from the one varifyed on the account, so I have since provided details of further transactions as well.

Anyway, after 24 hours for the initial reply it looks like its going to be Monday before I get my steam account back. Now I don't know how this could happen but things like this do happen. My password wasn't the most secure in the world but it is totally different to my email and paypal passwords so it should be ok. The only down side is a distinct lack of games I fancy playing and a few friends ringing me up asking if I knew I was sending them crazy messages.

Previously I was playing some Guild Wars, Alien Swarm and RTS games on my laptop because my pc has been sitting in the lounge doing not a lot for the last month. I am patient enough and can wait for the account back but I am in need of something to satifsfy the need for a quick game.

I have plenty of retail box games but don't really know what to play, and can't really be bothered to install one. Anybody got a suggestion for an online flash type game to satify the urge?

Someone else from OcUK got hacked too, they sent me a link to "Steam forums" with some weird message, and of course the first thing it asked me to do was log-in. Anything like that ring a bell? Some of them are pretty clever, looked totally legit.
 
Anythings possible mate, If I get on the machine after a few bevies I can't be held responsible for my actions.
 
Btw, online flash game, there is Doom 1 flash, on new grounds.

I'm sure that will tide you over for a while :p

Yea man my bad... Looks like I have failed pretty badly, I have literally never had a problem with anything before but will be a little more careful I think.

Yeah, watch out for the links people send you on Steam ;) if anything asks for details, just close it down.
 
Sorry bro it ain't over yet as getting your account back is the easy part. It's if the barstool that nicked it has cheated on it that is the problem and because of VAC's delayed ban system you usually have to wait a couple of months to see if it is clean or not.
If not then any games you have that have the VAC cheat detection you won't be able to play on any of the secured servers online.
 
Going to type this in caps, as it gets said everytime someone loses their account and afterwards realise it didn't exists, or that they had forgot to do it.

VERIFY YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT
GO TO STEAM>SETTINGS>ACCOUNT>VERIFY
THIS STOPS ANYONE CHANGING YOUR PASSWORD WITHOUT THEM CONFIRMING AN EMAIL SENT TO VERIFY IT

It means you can't lose your account unless you've also lost your email account.

That did seem to be the problem though as the op stated he was using a different address other than the one verified on the account.

Still though, good advice for those of you out there who have yet to verify your account.

Would hate to lose my account so hope you get yours back in one piece.

You mean avoid Steam altogether because there's a chance your account might get compromised? I don't see how that'll help. I mean sure, you won't lose games you've payed for, but that seems like quite a radical solution.

Lol, not anymore. It seems they seriously ramped up the speed it bans at. Some posts on the VAC steam forum saying that cheat sites have been testing it out and they can't get beyond 24 hours before being VAC'd. Hell i think the highest was 14 hours.
