5870 CF or 5970 or gtx 470 sli for crysis 2??

No one really knows yet how the cards will work out in crysis 2... it could easily go either way even if one card is for the most part faster than the other.

Dont wait, it's ages and so much time for u to enjoy the card u get rather than holding for something that might only be a little faster - remember its a refresh not new architecture.

I'd get a 5870 now and a second after the refresh when the prices have dropped :)

A single 5870 isn't that fast and will date within a year (they are more suited to CFX), I'd regret not getting better so opt for a 480 for better texture memory (£419) or if your keen on Ati for less power consumption/heat get the 5970 (£446).

creed, if it's a small update then it could point to 5890/5990-series with slightly higher clocks and a single 2GB (hope so) rather than the 5970 2x1GB which I don't like.

LoL a single 5870 is not that fast he says then suggests to go buy a 480 which is no that much faster than a 5870, and 1GB is more than enough unless you game on a 30" max rez monitor, yeah take this guys advise..

there is no way you'll need 470 sli or 5870 CF to play C2, I'm going to guess you'll be able to play it on a 460 although I still might be wrong so get a single 470 and then if that's not good enough get another

That makes perfect sense :p

I think he's trying to say buy a 5870 in Nvidia :D

Crysis was optimized extremely well, anyone who says otherwise isn't very good at judging that sort of thing

Ofcourse, that's why we had to wait 3yrs to get cards that will be able to play it decently on high details because it was perfectly optimized and the engine was flawless.

If crysis 2 will be anywhere as bad as the first one, we'll have to wait for HD7890 or 666GTX ( with free 5000W power supply ) before we get above 40FPS mark.

that's like saying if they released BC2 in 2007 it would be badly optimized

so it's badly optimized because they made the graphics ahead of its time?

no game has even come close to Crysis in the graphics department where you can actually compare them (based on environment the game is based, etc. because different environments can make it look better or worse than it actually is.)

Crytek head man Yerli said that if there was one change he could make, it would be to relabel the GFX settings so that 'High' was 'Very High' and ' Very High' was 'Extreme' or something.

If this had been done, we would all be having a very different retrospective discussion now, because the high end 4800 and GTX 200 series cards can handle the game very well at 'High' settings.

Either way, I am sure they will address their mistakes for Crysis 2.

^ don't trust xbit labs

only respectable review sites are Anandtech, H exus (minus the space between H and e), Guru3D and sometimes HardOCP

I don't mind [H] he has an interesting take on benchmarking rather then benching like for like all the time he benches the games based on how well the the cards can cope with certain IQ settings enabled. IMO IQ gets over looked far to often in reviews and the hardware's ability to cope with AQ and AA etc.

That quote reminds of me of what the instruction manual said about the difficulty settings in Thief 1 which were 'Normal' 'Hard' and 'Very Hard' there was no easy setting as the game was never easy!
