So who's got an XBOX "Slim" coming this week?

Huh? The reason it kicks out so much heat is because it's moving it away from the CPU and graphics card, which is what you want. Do you have a 360 slim, or are you basing your comment on other peoples' comments? I can't speak for the PS3 Slim because I have a fat one.

The 360 S gets all of the heat out at one place rather than it hanging around the rest of the console like the older models. The S only gets hot at the main vent where as the other can be warm all over.

Can someone tell me if I wait and buy the new one coming in August with just 4GB of onboard storage, can I put my own hard disk drive in it? If so, is it just a standard 2.5 inch SATA hard disk drive?
Many thanks

It will use the same HDD that the 360s uses, so its a MS part which we have no info on price or sizes as yet.

Surely someone must know internally what it is though? A HDD is a HDD no? Must be swapable? Was this not the case with earlier xbox 360 consoles? Sorry I know nothing about xboxes as never owned one.

The HDD itself is a 2.5" Sata but its in a custom housing and uses special software/firmware for anti piracy measures. There was a way (illegal) in the past to use a normal drive in the old HDD cases, but i dont think it will be as simple this time.

You can use the original 360 hard drives in the new slim. You need to remove the drive from the caddy and it will plug into the slim with a bit of fiddling as long as its not moved too much it will be ok, or you could make a mount to hold it in place...Quite a few vids and writeups of people doing this around the net.

What I'm saying is can I use my own hard disk drive since I have penty lying about. This is just to save £50 really as don't need to spend extra just for the 250gb if I can use my own.

Money making MS make huge profits on the drives and other accesories.. No other reason...

in theory you could get a usb stick/enclosure and connect it up to the usb port to gain a maximum of 16gb from 1 drive, or 32gb from using 2 usb drives.

Damn my 2006 era 360 seems to be close to a second RROD. I'm at the lock up / freeze stage now and it's happening seconds after being turned on.

I got it fixed back in June 2008 so I guess it makes sense. Will I be able to get another free repair from Microsoft or am I now on my own? Really am tempted to get a slim but if I can get it fixed I'm still inclined to keep off until I have burnt out all other options.
