One of the most annoying things about this country - parking spaces 2mm in size. I just had to let off steam about this one :p

Seriously... we just had a brand new grocery store built not far from my house along with a huge clothes store, pet store etc. Sprawling parking lot but my gosh the designers must have thought everyone in this town drove Matchbox cars.

So youre greeted with the sight of people contorting their poor bodies into impossible positions to struggle out of their cars. People have to wait for a car to back out...someone opening a door perfectly normally but before they can blink *BASH* it whacks the car near them and the door isnt even 40% open.

I know this isnt America where loads of people have big SUVs but geez why is it that even new parking lots on this island have tiny-ass spaces?

£ talks I know...more spaces=more customers...but still.

In case youre wonderin...my rides a boring Nissan Almera but even in this I have to think twice before deciding to pull into a space..

Ok Im done :D Gosh I wish I had a 24hr store, Id only shop at 0200!

Lol....I never thought Id come on a forum and whine about parking spaces...but it really got to me today...I got no problems parkin haha...thats the easy part. Then its a case of smiling at the people whove just pulled in near you and play tag to decide who gets to open doors first....

And yea people in Micras, Kas etc also have kinda tight fits....I seriously SERIOUSLY admire people who turn up in Land Cruisers, Discoverys , Range Rovers etc....I dunno how they do it! One guy in a pickup had no choice and had to doublepark.

Ok Ill never go there on a Sun morning again!

Believe me, the parking spaces are a lot smaller than in some other countries. As the OP said it is not getting into the space that it is problem but getting out of your car. I have 2 children under 4 and to get them out is sometimes impossible. And don't tell me to use the parking space for people with small children, because they are always occupied with people that when I see them get in or out of their cars doe not have any small children with them.

That felt good, joining the OP in her/his rant!

You just can't park, an almera is tiny.
If I can fit a LWB transit in spaces without much difficulty then you should have no problem.

Occasionally I have had to climb out of the back doors which must have really annoyed the guy parked on my left trying to get into his car but still.

Just do what I do take up one and a half spaces and up yours to anyone who doesn’t like it as mine is wider than yours. :D

And I'm guessing these places are allowed to clamp you if you're forced to park outside the marked bays? Doubt it'd be enforced, but still.

Everything about British roads is narrower compared to the US!

a lot of the big shopping malls in the US/Canada have the parking bays at an angle and double white lines dividing the spaces too. However motels tend to have drive in bays which are not much wider than what you would expect in the UK.

The spaces in the US aren't much bigger than here.......

they are - an element of my work includes estimating physical space requirements for my clients' developments and rules of thumb for parking spaces per hectare are much lower in UK/Europe than in the US
