*Official OMG I got my 460 thread*

460 on load get into the 70c area from reviews i've read.
Can someone confirm the reference cooler blow in or out. When I did test on a cpu with a heatsink fan blowing on the cpu it was noiably higher temps than if it sucks air away, like i said an odd design for reference 460 so i can understand msi and gigabyte creating a custom cooler.

Not meaning to be rude here but i can't really make sense of anything you're saying. The reference cooler blows out of the case at one end and into the case at the other. MSI/Gigabyte blow 100% of the air into the case.

Unless you have bad airflow in your case neither method will cause any problems.

Thats all i wanted to know, that the reference blows air onto the heatsink and then out the front and back and not suck air away like the msi/gigabyte.
The reference design seems like a odd design although i guess it will reduce ambient case temps compared to the msi/gigbyte, however better yet for case temps would be a proper external exhaust design lke the evga/zotec.
I'm just think of getting an 460 now and then another later for sli - in which case i dont want the internal exhaust design like msi/gigabyte. I may go for the reference but if i can find the evga 460 1gb EE i'll go for one of those.

Ah ok i see where the confusion is now, the MSI/Gigabyte cards don't suck air away, they both blow directly onto the board like the reference cooler does, they just don't have a full shroud.

The EVGA EE cards are noisy btw as i'm sure you've already read, if you're looking for a 1GB card with the reference cooler a Sparkle card is what you are after.

Cheers dude, now I didnt know the the MSI/Gigabyte blow on the heatsink aswell!?
I'd like to think my test some time ago proved blowing air on heatsink isnt as good as sucking air away, please some one back me up on this else i'll be scratching my head for days asking the question what are they doing?! I can only conclude that if you have two in case then one will be blowing out hot air on to the other.
The ocuk vaue 460 1gb - is this a reference cooler, its looks ot be from the pic?

No the OcUK ones are Inno3D or Palit. The Inno3D card is a tue external exhaust type, a few people here have them, some were not happy with the noise, others found them to be OK.

The part number for the Sparkle card with the reference cooler is SXX4601024D5SNM, you can google it over the next few weeks to see if anyone has them, hopefully OcUK will get them as well.

Im going to get my OcUK GTX460 next week. If mine comes without the VRM heatsink, can i use this one off my old 6800GT, its my backup card?

If it's the right size and you have some adhesive thermal tape i don't see why not. You can always hacksaw some of it away if it is too large, but there is almost no chance that the mounting holes will be the same on 6800/GTX460 as is.

Yes!! After reinstalling windows and faffing about for about 3 hours I finally got the hdmi sound to work! So for anyone that's interested, the gtx460 will do sound over hdmi with no need for a soundcard.

One strange thing is that since I got the sound working and set up my second display, my idle temps have shot up from around 38C to around 50C, while load temps are about the same. Could that really be caused be using 2 display outputs or using the sound functions??

Using a second display does increase the temps - probably because the card is having to clock faster to support two screens. These cards clock themselves down when not under load, which is why they run so cool and use less power.

Well after using the card all weekend I can say I'm well happy with the MSI GTX460 Cyclone.

It really is a cracking card. :)

It's been at 800/1600/4000 @ 1.000V since about half an hour after it was plugged in, and it's not skipped a beat.

I've given it a blast in a load of random games (Batman AA, Dirt 2, Red Faction, Guild Wars, Metro 2033 etc etc) and it's run absolutely fine in all of them.

Couldn't be happier. :D

So we now know there is at least one good GTX460!

Interested to hear what people think of the Giga and the Sparkles when they get them :)

Good to finally have an nVidia card worth buying again! I've been on ATi for too long :D

yea by tweaking some settings in COH i have managed to run with about 6 of the 9 settings on ultra with 8x AF and 8x FSA (or maybe 2x but its close) and it runs great, no stutter no probs. just nice.

thats at 840/1680/4100 1.05 and it was rock stable (where my KFa2 was NOT) and i mean i played an intense 2v2 AT match that actually lasted for 1 hour 10 mins and no issues.

Test it, for the good of the forum.

You can still send it back after :D

We need to know if the rumours of awesome stock cooler are true, also what if its even betterer!!!

i dont know the DSR doesnt allow you to TEST the product working

i.e i cant go into a shop, demand they de box a gfx card and install it into a computer for me and then walk away saying i dont like it...they might let me open the box but once its used it becomes 2nd user surely?

i know my concern is that one place that i got the cyclone from i checked their rules and you cannot return under the DSR if you have used the product....
Sounds like you're happy with the MSI noise & overclock? I'd just return the Sparkle unopened, saves any potential argument or agro. In law you'll be OK as long as you take reasonable care of the goods, etc., but I'd go for the path of least resistance.

Can you face messing round with the Sparkle, opening/closing PC, booting? All that time spent you could be playing a game or drinking beer or something! :)

Can I insist that consumers who cancel an order within the
cancellation period return the goods as new or in their
original packaging?
3.58 No. Consumers are under a duty to take reasonable care of the goods
while in their possession as discussed in paragraph 3.44. The DSRs
allow consumers to examine goods they have ordered as they would
in a shop. If that requires opening the packaging and trying out the
goods then they have not breached their duty to take reasonable
care of the goods. In these circumstances you cannot insist that
consumers return the goods as new or in their original packaging.
You may ask consumers to return goods with the original packaging,
but you cannot insist on this. In the case of goods such as earrings
that have hygiene seals, you may require consumers to exercise
reasonable care by not removing the seals when examining them.
