Hi

I know you can't be guaranteed a sale on eBay, some people get lucky some dont...

Anyway I've a Nokia N96 sat around which is surplus to requirements, so thought I'd list it...it's locked to Vodafone, in decent condition, few marks and the common problem of dust under the screen with all accessories minus the car charger. It's such a minefield out there, what do you guys reckon is a fair price for it?

Cheers

I've bought and sold loads of phones on ebay and never once had a problem. Its all in what you put in the advert.

I've always always put in mine:

1: Will only post to uk.
2: Will only post to confirmed Paypal addresses.
3: No buyers with less than 10 feedback.
4: Include hi-res images of the actual item in the auction.

I'm sure others will have different advice / opinions but the above has always worked for me.

I reckon its worth £100 - £120.

(This applies for all auctions, not just phones)

Put a good image of your phone with a bit of paper with your ebay username and the date on it. This way people realise that it is a real phone and you haven't just stolen a picture from another auction. Remember that the photos are more important than the text!

make sure your description is spot on.

make sure you put as much info as possible about the phone and marks/scratches it has.

i just sold a blackberry 8110 and said it had a intermittent fault with the ball so there is no come back on me about it not working.

Its fair to say it may have some light scuffing to the edges and micro scratches to the screen oh and the common problem of dust under the screen that n96's suffer from.

I may try for £110? And won't be posting to Nigeria :p

How much is it worth to the phone recyclers? I have a Nokia 5800, they likes of fonebank offer £71. I might get £80 on the bay, after the ebay/paypal fees I might as well sell it to them.

Don't use auctions. Find the price it goes for auctions and put a buy-it-now price £10 less than that.

Buy-it-now auctions have much better final value fees than auctions. In auctions they take 9.9% while in a buy-it-now it starts off at 5.25% and has a sliding scale decreasing the fee on technology products.

Go down to technology section. In addition, if someone is messing you around, it wastes less time as you simply relist instantly and get fees back by reporting the unpaid item.

Never accept a paypal payment and a collection of the item. Always post the item via RMSD if they pay via paypal. If they want to collect, tell them to pay in cash on collection.

Make sure the listing is UK only. Make sure you use the filters which allow you to block certain buyers (people with negative feedback or those which have unpaid item black marks on their account).

Always have this in a large font and in bold in your listing.

"Please note I will not post this outside the UK. I will only use Royal Mail Special Delivery to the Paypal confirmed address on your account within the UK."

Do not look like a novice as you will be targeted.

some good advice there :)

i sold 3 iphones on ebay now all without problems, just be honest list all you can.
iphones are easier then nokias simply bc well....apple and mugs go hand in hand!

I have sold probably 30 phones on the bay and not had a problem with a single one, the only thing you have to account for is the demand for the model, you may only get a few bids and sell it for less than you intended.

Looking at completed listings, £100 should be the buy-it-now price. Not the starting price to an auction.

You should also have got it unlocked before selling. Most people will hit the unlocked filter and not even see your listing.

Don't be fooled by free listing promotions. Item listings cost pennies. It's the final value fees you should minimise.

Spose but even if it ends at the start price I'm not going to be upset. Unlocking sure it's not going to break the bank but i'd rather not bother.

Trial and error as they say.
