One last time before I press the buy button, GTX 470 vs the 5870

TBH, just clock it what max it lets you and be done with it, the card is well powerful enough at stock, I see an average of an extra 10 FPS with 1000 core so not that great gains.

and if you go green does that mean you will start slating ATI?

He had an Nvidia card before iirc and used to slate Ati so I guess it is whatever is in his rig, just like most people on here anyway.

Anyway opethdisciple just buy a card lol. If you are used to having Ati just get a 5870. You cannot go wrong with either card.

You mean, when I open up the afterburner software, with out altering the voltage of the card, it will have an upper limit that I can overclock the core that it wont let me go beyound.

So its basically noob proof?

Also, I shoudnt bother waiting for the 6000 series refresh?

If the 5870 is gona be powerfull enough for a good two years, I guess im justified in pickin up something now, rather than wating.

Also my cpu is only a stock qx9650, not an I7 which obviously it would be nice to have a 6870 paired with a I7...

Yeah I know for a fact the card you are getting will have a limit of 900Mhz so you can't bypass that without editing an MSI file, all so the card you are getting will have not have softawre volt control so you are not going to fry it anytime soon :p just clock it to the 900Mhz and it will be well sweet.

As for the refresh you could be waiting another 5-6 months, buy now.

If you screw something up with after burner, is there like a 'set back to default' button or option?

Im thinking I may play with after burner on the 4350 ATI card in my work machine!:p

Lol, you've got an extreme edition of intel CPU and you haven't clocked it?! That's like owning a Ferrari and not driving it past speed limits/on autobahns...

Im a noob overclcoker!

I dont really know how to do it!

Plus... at the moment I have an issue with my bios.

Sometimes, I boot the pc, and its reset the fan profile on thye cpu. I dont know if I do some overclocking on the cpu, if when it resets the fan speed, if it will lose the overclocking too.

Im gona try replacing the battery on the motherboard, and hope that fixes it.

Not with updated drivers, just run them and my sig could be green come this time next week.

Really can't be bothered tonight, if I get time I'll get my benching head on sometime this week, still running the latest betas too haven't bothered updating to the WHQL one yet :o

Just for reference here are the benchmarks with the first set of drivers:

Right just overclocked my gpu to 800MHz on the core and got these results.

CPU still @ 4GHz, I think you'll agree some good boosts in FPS here.

This will be my last Just Cause 2 benchmarks honest :p

As outher people have stated both cards are really good value for money with the recent price cuts and you will be more than happy with which ever one you get :)

nice 108fps average in JC2 desert sunrise you got with that 480 card.
i get 119fps average at the same settings/resolution but thats with 2 5870's ~ 875/1250 (i7 3.6)
i get 70fps average in concrete jungle, on the dirt 2 bench i get 101fps minimum and 121 average with ultra settings 1920x1080
