RAM won't POST at rated timings

I found this with my G.Skill RAM. If the ram is optimised for intel and has good timings/speed it is unlikely I have found that it will post at the rated timings on an AMD board.

*facepalm*

"designed specifically for the Intel® P55 Chipset and subsequent Intel® Core™ i7, i5, and i3 (Socket 1156) processors"

Someone on here recommended this RAM for an AMD build. Didn't spot that. Ah well!

Thanks, I guess I'll play around with the timings and see what it can manage.

Actually, maybe it wasn't a bad recommendation. All the other RAM I'm looking at now runs at timings of 9-9-9-24 or higher anyway, so it looks like I've still come out ahead with the cheap option.

Fair enough!

Hi

Just got some of this ram for my AMD system ... wouldnt post at the advertised timings so spent a little time trying the individual timings ...

ended up was just the CAS that would not take 6 .. so now running 7-8-6-24 rock solid and stable .. so you might want to set the timings one at a time leaving the CAS till last and then lower it one notch at a time to find the lowest it will boot and run stable with.

Cozzy

Thanks, I'll try that.

If it helps you, I've now got this RAM running stable at 1760MHz at 1.75V. I couldn't get it to boot at 1800MHz even at 1.9V though. I'll try reducing the RAM timings at this clock rate in a bit (stress testing the GPU at the moment) and let you know how it works out.

:D

My RAM's now at 1640MHz, 7-8-6-24 as you suggested, and totally stable. It could probably do a higher clock rate, but I'd have to turn the FSB way down, so I haven't even checked. Thanks again!

When tweaking and setting ram you need to take into account how goo d the memory controller is on the CPU, as this can limit how fast the ram can run, I would be happy with the ram at 1640 and timmings you have.

Exactly, the RAM may well run at the rated speeds but if the chip isn't up to the job, you're stuffed!
