5870, faster and runs cooler than even the amp 470, uses less power, the 470 will all so use three expansion slots in your case compared to two with the 5870, not to be too ATI bias, the 470 has physx, 3D and cuda support

pros of 5870:

better avg.fps at stock
lower power usage
lower noise levels
better P4P compared to the AMP!
better AF method

cons:
it is a big card, if you have a mid tower it won't fit
worse handling of AA and less methods of AA
only comparable when both are overclocked
overclocking doesn't have as much of an effect and will most likely only overclock about 15%

Pros of 470:
470 usually gets comparable or higher minimum fps and lower max fps so smoother gameplay
overclocking has much more effect and you can easily get a 33% overclock, this gives a better price for performance when both are overclocked (talking about standard 470 here)
drivers are better
will fit in most cases with ease

cons:
lower avg. fps
higher power usage
some people may be put off by noise
AF method isn't as good as 5xxx series
AMP! has worse P4P than 5870

470 for £235

Edit: Sorry just read you want a quiet card, check the reviews for both specific manufacturer card, my guess is if the 470 is stock cooling it will be too loud

The 470 you have linked, is very expensive, for what it delivers, against the cheaper priced more powerfull 5870.

Like I said before, if you desire physx for any physx games go 470, otherwise 5870.

Here, even in June 2010 sites are giving the 5870 the top award and is the card to own in the high-end segment.

The Radeon 5870 remains my choice if you want to use a single GPU. The GTX 480 may offer a bit more muscle but it comes at a heftier cost, as well as significantly higher power and thermal requirements, giving the 5870 the edge if you want the best price per performance and power. With all the money you just saved on the processor, alternatively you could opt a dual-GPU Radeon HD 5970 of course.

You can see here: http://www.techspot.com/guides/304-top-mainstream-and-highend-graphics-cards/ that the 470 is listed against the 5850 and the 460, so the 5870 is in a higher performance bracket.

If you need physx, go 470. However, the 470 you listed is too expensive for what it is. If you want a high performance GTX, and are gona spend £300, go the whole hog and get a GTX 480, its £75 more sure, but it'l be what you want, and not what that 470 will deliver.

Otherwise the 5870 gets my vote. Hence why Iv choosen it over the 470...

whats the temps and noise like on one of these?

cheers for all your feedback folks

It uses the stock cooler design so just read the reviews for a regular HD5870 and that should give you a pretty good idea. Also this is an eyefinty 6 card and uses mini-display ports but it does come with all the adaptors you could want – this is a good price for a 2Gb card.

I've never actually owned one, but have used one for a few days.

I don't think temps and noise are much of an issue with current offerings from ATi (please correct me if I'm wrong).
I can tell you it was a lot cooler than my GTX285 SLI configuration.
