Spec me a car threads have some basics around what is needed from the car and what usage it will have. That is a million miles difference to a tattoo

The OP has asked advise/ideas on what new tattoo he should get even though hes had 23 previous tattoos lol. I seriously thought this thread was a joke, getting a tattoo is something personal nothing anyone here could or should choose for him!

I've never understood the practice of having words that supposedly mean something to you tattooed in either or a foreign or a dead language.

If you believe in the words, wear them in a fashion that people can understand.

If no one can understand them, you may as well just have an attractive pattern - because that's all it is if no one can read them, or no one in the country in which you live can read them.

I have several pieces on me which either involve words or are just words, they're all in English. One I'm considering is a fairly lengthy quote, and if I have that it will be in English.

You'll always get some flak on this place around tattoos, just like a lot of places. But in this case, I can see where they're coming from. Or at least some of them.

It is your tattoo, so really you should be picking it, and as someone who's beaucoup tatted up already you of all people should already be of that opinion?

some times its better to see a tattoo on some body and say "thats a nice piece of art".

i will not copy someone's tattoo but just give me a bit of inspiration into what i want.
 
Well in that case my opinion still stands. In my estimation tattoos have much more impact when in plain English.

If people see the ink on me that is is either a quote in one case, or just mottos/statements in the other two cases, they don't have to ask what it says, they can see what it says. I believe it enough to have it indelibly marked on my skin, I believe it enough to have it done in English.

and your right about some of the people on here with there sarky comments and unhelpfulness.

i understand most people on here are still young and have different views but it still astounds me to what level some people will go for the lolz and post count's.

I had this hand done into a half sleeve with a few additional extras to make it unique.

1) Google meaningful quotes or foreign quotes/chinese/hebrew/whatever quotes
2) Find a quote that really means something to you
3) Search different fonts for whichever language?
4) Make it look nice
5) Get it done

If you like it, that's all that matters. I have more respect for people who 'do their own thing' than someone who just gets a generic design for the hell of it.

I'm not going to demonstrate what I would have done for 2 reasons:
a) It's not my kind of tattoo, I prefer symbols
b) It won't help you anyway, because you shouldn't really use a design someone else thought up.

I can see why the comments are slightly stupid, you can't really bash the forum for it, because it is a strange request. How can someone spec you something that is down to personal taste?

If you're going to get foreign characters tattooed on you, for the love of God, go to someone who either speaks the language or studies it. Go to a university and find the Latin department if you have to. Seen so many people with foreign script written on them that they've done through a translation service that is complete babble.

Personally, I've always liked Catholic iconography in tattooing. Seen some Latin American gang tattooes that are actually beautifully done featuring the virgin mary and the like. But being a Protestant in Northern Ireland, it's not something I'd etch on myself. I wouldn't get **** like Quis Seperabit etched on me either. Gotta be careful what you have inked on you and visible incase you get your head kicked in for it.
