Was driving down to Bath today, before I hit the motorway the car was fine. Temps all good, oil temp fine, mpg fine.

Got as far as Bracknell and started hearing knocking sounds from under the car, under my seat. Something has come loose or broken off. Get on to the M4 and the temperature gauge rockets up. Turn round on the next junction and limp back to Croydon doing around 50mph. The temperature was fine at that speed, the mpg was still good at around 40mpg. Just sounds like major farting noise from the underneath of my car.

Will this be a downpipe issue, or a manifold issue ??

Sorry, I have to laugh... I read the title as Blown Exhaust/Defuser thinking it was something to do with the Formula 1 :D

It could be the downpipe & cat section. Or centre section, very much doubt it to be the manifold.

What car is it and are they well known for going in this area is what I would want to know? Cant you just have a look underneath, if its as bad as it sounds you'll be able to see something obvious

Car shouldn't overheat if the exhaust is blown unless it's emptying it's hot gasses into the engine compartment however you were on the m4 so I'd assume your moving and pushing heat out the back.

No, you won't!

Even without jacking the car up, you should be able to get your head/hand under the car enough to hear and feel around the exhaust (obviously do it when first starting the car, not after a long journey), and if you hear any kind of noises, or feel any kind of airflow from a part of the exhaust, that's where it's gone.

It is a simple job that should take you less than 5 minutes :)

I went down Kwik Fit as I had to get some shopping too.

Looked under the car on the ramp and basically from the cat back the pipes are corroding and just after the cat the pipe had been welded before and it's rotten to the core, hence why the knocking as it's come apart from the cat side. Either weld it again or get a whole cat back system.

So, where can I get a quote for cat back systems.

Don't buy anything from the states, my 404 stainless steel system for my Prelude rusted in 3 months and the gits said ha ha sod off

Is that a Mongoose system? Cant be genuine or somethings wrong, i've had three systems and know people that have had others and every single one has been perfect fit with no issues

Can't remember it was suggested in a Prelude UK thread and I bought it over Ebay, wasn't a mongoose though it was rubbish

Shows you can't trust every thread on a forum you might actually make a decision for yourself *shocker*

Forums should be used for opinions only, people like to justify purchases to themselves by saying its "great for the money" etc and give a positive review on it when in reality they have only owned whatever it is five minutes and its the only one they have ever owned

I suppose Mongoose is the only aftermarket exhaust I ever owned but I did an epic amount of research before I bought it and knew other people that had them so was slightly different

Supersprint are confusing because they do cat replacement included in either the manifold or B pipe (cat back) and systems with no cat replacement (like what you're after)

You want the B pipe inc silencer (cat back) and back box.

You need to speak to a dealer for Supersprint, try motorsportworld or euro performance

Be aware that supersprint are mild steel and not stainless
