WHich cable provides the best picture quality for gaming, in HD,

I herd DVI and HDMI are the same thing,

so if i got a OCUK value DVI to HDMI cable will that work?

the reason i want to know because my monitor that i want to get in my future build will be a Dell ST2410 24 and it comes with VGA :( and i herd that is cow manure in terms of performance

When you do HDMI to HDMI it includes sound. DVI is picture only, but both have the same quality I believe. The same goes for Display port.

So generally If you have a seperate sound system go for DVI/Display Port. Whereas if it's through a built in sound system (For example a HD-TV) Then use HDMI - for this reason HDMI is most common in BluRay movies/console gaming etc...

DVI is HDMI without the sound, basically dvi is digital and vga analogue, depending on your graphics card, if it outputs to dvi you could get a dvi>hdmi adapter rather then cable, your graphics card might be capable of outputting the sound through the adapter, something the cable wouldnt do ;)

Not to be pedantic, but it really makes no difference. It's just how the signal is sent over the cable, not how the monitor sees it or uses the data within. The picture is dependent on the settings you choose to output. There will be slight variations like the noise that may incur over the analogue cable if you push a lot of bandwidth (but this was never a major concern with people pushing CRTs of 23" to 2400x1600 or whatever resolutions @ 100Hz+, so why should it now?). The only other benefits you may get are the new extended colour gamuts newer cables are tested for, but then, the panel has to be compatible with that, aswell as the GPU itself, if they even will output such modes (?).
