MSI Afterburner and 5850

I've just got a Powercolor 5850 PCS+ and I'm now trying to overclock it using MSI Afterburner. However, it won't let me set anything beyond a modest overclock of 5-10 Mhz. I've also tried ATI Overdrive, but that doesn't go beyond a certain boundary of 775/1125.

Have I got a dodgy card, or am I just doing things wrong? Reviews indicate that the card can go beyond 900 Mhz without any voltage mods, so it seems I shouldn't have any problems pushing it past 800.

Thanks

Edit: I've just noticed that the MSI Overdrive limit is 775/1125 as well...

1.) Open the MSIAfterburner.cfg with Notepad
2.) Change the "enable unofficial overclocking" Value of 0 to 1.
3.) Select "File" and select "Save as".
4.) When the save window pops up select "All Files" in the "Save as type" box and save!
It wil ask you to confirm the "Overwrite of the file" Select "yes".

job done u can now clock past the limits

Thanks a lot, that seems to work. However, I've found an older BIOS for my card that should have no limits, as it's the same one used for a review that took the card to 950 Mhz. Do you think I should try flashing that, so that I can use more overclocking programmes?

Your card is non-reference. Flash-it, you Brick-it.

The BIOS I would flash is this one here: http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/64146/Powercolor.HD5850.1024.091216.html .

The current BIOS on it is http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/68332/Powercolor.HD5850.1024.100118.html .

Is there still a chance that I could brick it, even though it's a BIOS for the same card?

The scenario I referred to was when people attempted to flash a non-reference card with a reference bios. Since the rev.2 cards don't have the same design, some cards were permanently bricked.

If you believe that the bios you want to flash is specifically for your card, then it should be OK, even if it goes wrong, you should be able to blind flash it.

However, as with ALL flashes, there is an element of risk. Do so at your own risk.
