Can some explain the new i3 i5 i7 processors and also know if CS5 will use the i7 quad cores.

The reason I ask is I only edit photo's and use Aperture 3 and CS5 and want to upgrade from my 24" 3.06Ghz 4GB RAM which one should i go for and is there going to be a big jump from my present model to the new one.

You will notice more of a jump owing to the fact you're moving from a dual core to quad core rather than any particular architecture changes. Moving to the fastest quad you can afford is the best bet - If by CS5 you're referring to Photoshop, it doesn't really gain huge amounts with the i7 CPU's.

What about graphics card acceleration in things like Photoshop (does it even utilise that?) and Premiere Pro? Is it worth the jump to the 5670 from the 4670?

Oh right, hmm! So what benefit does a better GPU have then, purely in gaming and nothing else? I don't play games anyway.

But there are i3 and i5 that are not quadcore too so would a Core i5 3.6ghz be a good machine for Aperture and iMovies 9

And this is my question if its purely for photo editing do I need a quad core or just a fast duel core and lots of memory. I wont be playing games editing movies but just using Aperture 3 and CS5 (photoshop) ;)

Willis since your in the same bout as me which do you think you be going for... I seem to be thinking of getting the base i3 27" unless someone post on here saying I see the difference in the i5 3.60 27" non quadcore

Really not sure might just bite the bullet and get the i7 2.93ghz just in case :D

I would definitely reccommend a quad core, and lots of memory. Gpu should be your last concern for photo editing. As I say, best quad core you can afford. At least 4GB of ram, preferably more.
