I'm looking to get a graphic card just for playing games such as counter-strike source and the hl2 engine games, and maybe a bit of grid etc which card would be better? or if you know any other cards please post!

9800GT is the faster card by quite a margin, the 240 is slightly newer tech but not in any way that matters - especially if your playing source based games.

As you can see here:

The 8800GT (which is basically the same as the 9800GT sans tri-SLI support) pulls quite ahead of the GT240 cards - the GT240 is closer to the 9600GT than the 9800GT.

Ive got a 9800gt, still a pretty decent card. It can play all modern games at around medium settings, pretty good for such a cheap card.

Also consider looking at the GTS250 as thats similiar price to the 9800GT now but quite a bit faster again or the 5750 (tho ATI and source engine has a few minor issues in several games like CS(S) and DOD:S).

My laptop has a GTX260m which is basically the same as the desktop 9800GT 1Gig - and it still plays everything at 1680x1050 with max settings and mostly >50fps, lot of games its still into the 100-120 region.
