Just saw this on the BBC

It seems an interesting to case me. Part of me can understand the pro bullfighting lobby that it is an integral cultural part of Spanish history but a large part of me finds the whole spectacle abhorrent and unjustified in the 21st century, after all we stopped Bear baiting and similar sports in 1835.

I do think it means interesting times ahead for the Spanish debate and will probably be even more heated than hunting with dogs debate in this country.

Just because something "has always been done" doesn't make it right. If the Spanish don't like it then tough. It IS history and as such should probably be resigned to it - remembered but not forgotten. It isn't fair on the bull and if the person in the ring got hit by it then serves him right

About time, unlike fox hunting there are no possibly plausible reasons for this barbaric sport. Other things like dog or **** fighting have long been banned over here.

One can't help but think it's a way of Catalonia expressing that it doesn't consider itself a part of Spain - you can't ask for a more effective way other than banning one of its most recognizable and famous cultural events.

Yeah I'd also tend to think this was the real reason behind it.

Maybe it's Catalonia's way of distracting attention away from how ****ing classless their entire football side's acted this summer. Cesc and his 'DNA'...*mutters to himself*.

... and dangerous for the bull fighter.

They know exactly what they're doing. And they know all the risks involved. It's cruel and barbaric, but let's not bull**** we want it banned because we're interested in the safety of the bull fighter. Most people watch it in the hope the bull fighter gets ****ed.

That boyo that got the horn through the bottom of his jaw a wee while back. If you're pro bull fighting you were gleeful because you got to see some serious blood. If you're anti bull fighting you were gleeful because now you had a serious case to back up your argument that it's too dangerous.

I wondered whether there was maybe a slight aspect of that as well. It seems not to be quite as popular in Catalonia anyway.

Still, good news.
