Whats the diffrence between the lower priced hdmi cables you see on auction sites that are around £4.99 for 5M compared to the 2M cables you see in shops that are priced around £14.99?

I need a HDMI cable long enough to reach from my ps3 to my computer monitor which is around 4M away. I cant move the ps3 or the PC so im stuck with just getting a longer cable. IS there that much diffrence in quality between the £4.99 ones and the over priced ones you find in asda, currys etc.

THNAKS EVERY ONE!!! I JUST BOUGHT A 5M CABLE FOR 4.95 ON AN AUCTION SITE! THANKS VERY MUHC FOR YOUR HELP AND I CANT WAIT TO WATCH BLUE RAYS ON MY MONITOR WOO :p

Well, the markup?

As long as they work, they're all the same tbh. The only difference you may find is the build quality of the cable, though even at £4.99 and £14.99 there's probably not a lot of difference.

the £14.99 one's are low priced, alto of them seem to be closer to £50 and can stretch into a couple of hundred

to answer your question it depends who you talk to but for ps3 use you wont notice any difference that's worth the money

I remember them covering this on the gadget show ages ago. They compared side by side a "cheapo" cable to the uber expensive monster cables and they could see absolutely no difference.

Unless you are running very long cables, the cable quality will make no difference whatsoever. They will either work, or not. At long lengths, more shielding is needed, but the quality of the signal wire still makes little/no difference.

Cheepo cables work just as well. Anyone who tells you otherwise is scamming you, and they probably know it.

The only difference is the markup, as stated above. A £2 cable from <snip!> was actually THE SAME CABLE IN THE SAME PACKAGING as a £20 affair I bought when desperate from HMV. You can argue till youre blue in the face about the merits of pricey speaker cable, but in HDMI terms, spend as little as is humanly possible.

HDMI carries a digital signal so go for the cheapest you can find

Speakers cables carry analogue, so the quality of the cable does matter.. but whether it matters as much as the cable costs is down to the individual. As an aside, a good altenate to expensive speaker cables is 13 amp, 2 core mains cable... which is dead cheap and available from most good DIY places!

As has been said already, the quality of the cable will not affect the siganl. It will either work, or not. I have a 'cheapo' 20m cable and there is no difference in quality between that and a really expensive 1m cable my mate has.

The differences are incredibly subtle. You might get a more vibrant red (or whatever colour) with an expensive cable but from my experience that is it.

You pretty much have to be stood two foot away from the screen to notice too.

That will be a placebo.

Singe the signal is digital, 'red' will either be transmitted, or it will not.
There is no variability of colours analogue would give.

Correct. If something fails, it will be massive picture breakup and failure to display. There is no scope for subtle failures.

I got 15m hdmi cable for £10 and runs perfectly fine for me, I have used more costly cables but i have never noticed the diffrence.

When my dad brought my first HD tv he spent like £70 on the HDMI cable and I brought one for £1 and there is no difference dude, cheaper the better.
