3d vision setup- advice needed!

Hi all, I'm currently using an i7 920 @ stock with 6gb ram & an asus gtx 275 gpu. I recently had a play on need for speed shift using nvidia 3d vision & I was truly blown away- for me personally, its as big a leap as going from sprites to polygons!

Obviously I'll need extra horsepower to run games nicely in 3d so what would be the best upgrade path for me? I like the idea of a 2nd hand gtx 275 for sli as I'm not fussed by dx11 yet or should I just sell my gtx 275 and go for a gtx 480?
Would both be good enough to play games in 3d even if physx was involved? Would i need to oc my i7 so i don't bottlenect the gpu?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm really torn as to what path offers me the best 3d vision experience. Gtx 480's seem to sell for £320-350 2nd hand whereas a 2nd hand gtx 275 is around £130- what should i do?

I'd say get another 275 or sell the current one and buy a 470, better buy than the 480

would be a good idea to oc your i7 but not necessary

providing PhysX is run on the i7 or you're using dual 275's it should be fine

my heart says gtx480 but my wallet says gtx 275 sli is a good compromise- ive been reading its better slightly than a gtx 295 which is kind of on par with a single gtx 480...

what about a 470 and maybe a basic water cooling system

would perform quite a bit better than the 480 when overclocked and be quieter if you went for water cooling and be way cheaper if you kept it air cooled

I'd probably opt for another 275, will give you a similar sort of performance as the 480 for a fraction of the price.

Sell the 275 and get a 470, it's awesome for 3D ;)

but surely gtx 275 in sli would beat a gtx 470 considering its a faster config than the gtx 295? Also its a £110 odd for a 2nd hand gtx 275 vs £255 for a gtx 470!

God its so confusing- would be much easier if i had more miney to burn lol:rolleyes:

470 will OC to 480 speeds though, plus you get higher minimum fps than dual 275's

geez i might just save some pennies and splash out on a 480- i could get £100 for my gtx 275 and sell some crap on ebay to help fund it i suppose- im really looking forward to mafia 2 as well:eek::confused:

By selling your 275 for £110 its only £130 you'll need. This would give DX11, better min frames & the option to go SLI later if you want to. All for £20 more then a second 275. I did exactly the same thing. I sold my 275 & bought the 470. Now my second one has arrived as I've never played with SLI before :)

Get a GTX480.

I have just upgraded to a GTX40 from a GTX285 SLi setup.

Yes the 285 SLi was on par and even better than the 480 in some cases, but min frame rate is up and game play flows a lot better.

a GTX480 can be bought for about £360 now.

Sell the 275 as it is still a dam fine card, one reason you will get good cash for it, then get a 470 or a 480 or wait for the 475 GF104 refresh. or hang on for the Solar powered Light bulb 480 version that people are waiting for.. but i did here a Modded 50p meter version is coming out (has a slot on cooler) .. internet rumours are Ace.

Sold my 280GTX for £97 and i still rate that card but the 32aa and Pq in games is a big update , even if you do not use 32aa on ingame settings in certain games.

.

lol I'm really not bothered about heat/power consumption as my gtx 275 idles at 47 and regularly hits 85 in game. As for power consumption whats the point of having a big psu if youre not gonna run hot n hungry hardware eh?!

gtx 480 it is i think- will probably ebay a few bits to help towards my new gpu:)

Never go tight wad mode on a Psu , get the best/biggest you can afford, more head room and less stress on Psu and less chance of Exploding in system :D you never no what your going to add to system 6 months down the line.

my last was a DXX1000 enermax and got it swapped under warranty (due enermax dragging the heels), hence the 850HX in stig :)
