HTC Nexus One or Desire?

Either will work well, since both can run stock Android and both can run Sense (The Desire can run ASOP/Ports of Android and the Nexus One can run Ports of Sense Android).

Sense IMPROVES Android, there is NO questioning that. It adds features that stock Android can not do.

Anyone claiming Sense is simply an aesthetic change or launcher, doesn't really know what Sense is, or what it does.

Either way, you can have best of both worlds on either phones.

Um, no.

Get the Desire, its probably cheaper.

If you do care enough about the software updates on the Nexus One, you'll be able to easily put them onto the Desire.

Aside from that it's just a cheaper option with a better interface (for most people).

...I'm pretty sure the HD2 is cheaper as it's an older model but the larger screen and the option to put several different versions of android on it (both with and without Sense) make it a nice buy these days.

Last I heard though, the phone becomes very hot and drains the battery within a few hours.

What other bugs are there?

Shame, as I would love a HD2 if it could run Android perfectly.

I went for the Nexus One before the Desire was released and glad I did. Sense is an improvement to some people but not others....sorry. Because of hacking, and if you're willing to unlock and root your phone then there's no difference between the two apart from the hardware buttons and optical pad versus software buttons and trackball.

The Nexus does have noise cancellation, though, which is something you don't, and can't get on the Desire. On the flip side, the Desire has an FM radio but the Nexus doesn't.

Even with the newer phones released, I'd still pick the Nexus One right now if I was upgrading. We'll most likely get Gingerbread first as well :)

The development is going pretty quickly. It literally in the past few days has become stable enough for day to day use. Still not perfect but battery life isn't too bad now (not quite as good as winmo still) and pretty much everything bar bluetooth works fine. I'm using a froyo build with sense enabled... Not as nippy as without sense of course but it's still fun.

The heating issue was only a problem in the very early experiments with android.

Some excellent opinions here guys thanks for that.
I've had a Blackberry for years so this Android stuff is all new to me. I am swaying toward the Nexus as i've heard nothing but good stuff about it.
Upgrade time is close so i must make up my mind soon.

Could I ask out of interest, what bad stuff you have heard about the Desire?

I've not heard anything bad, just a few reviews titled 'a little disappointed'.
The reviews i've read make the Nexus out to be the better one; all very subjective i know.

A little disappointed in what exactly? Do you have a link to one of these reviews?

I honestly wouldn't go by things like that.

Read some actual reviews by proper tech websites, then you'll get a better picture.

The Nexus One and the Desire are very similar, they are essentially the same phone with some very minor differences.

In my opinion, you would want the Sense UI, that is what most people perceive Android to be, it is far, far better than the default stuff for most people.

Go and try them both, you'll most likely hugely prefer the Desire due to it. (If you haven't already)

You're right, i need to check them both out with a proper hands-on. You can only get so much from what others have written.
To be honest i like them both!
