Dell Streak/Galaxy S/iPhone 4/Desire? Recommendations

Hi guys,

Fairly generic recommendation thread here mainly concerning the 4 phones in the title:

But I'm due an upgrade next month and quite frankly I'm a bit stuck on what to go for! (Had my upgrade been 3 months earlier I'd have gone for the Desire without a 2nd thought)

I've been reading reviews online and in magazines and all 4 devices seem to have pretty good reviews and excel in various areas and not so much in others.

So I thought I'd ask personal opinions, my criteria are as follows:

- Good for email/text/typing (I like the inclusion of Swype on the Galaxy)

- Audio, my phone is my pmp (again the Galaxy has had great reviews for its audio rendering)

- Internet (mainly web page browsing)

- Movies

- Sat Nav, my next phone is to work as my car sat nav as well.

At present my preference order is as follows:

1. Galaxy S (as a pmp)
2. Streak (for movies and web browsing)
3. iPhone (for the apps)
4. Desire (generally good but doesn't seem to excel in any area?)

Any comments/opinions welcomed

I'm in the same boat (going to get my *insert phone here* tonight)

I'm leaning towards the streak due to the big screen for movies and web browsing. Whilst I don't do much of the former (though I'll be increasingly on the move so that could change) I do a lot of the latter. It'd be clear cut if the dell had it's firmware update already >.<

Who knows what I'll come out with tonight ^^

I just had a go on a Streak and its quite a nice phone and feels wafer thin for its sheer size. However - I wouldn't get one as I would feel like Dom Jolly making a call and the keyboard was all over the place as it seems they have squeezed a full KB in both landscape and portrait. Nice screen and great browsing machine. Also - I know its coming but its still running A1.6 - madness!!

I too am waiting to upgrade from my 3G but I am going to wait for a HTC 4.3 incher to be released.

am i missing why the nexus one is always missed out ?

it has everything the desire has plus more and is actually in stock with AMOLEDs + android 2.2 + noise cancelling

seems like the best option to me ?

The streak is an actual phone, its really not that big when you hold it up to your face. If you remember mobile phones from quite a few years ago, its really not that big.

If you make a lot of calls or wear very tight jeans then the streak isnt for you!

Streak v Nexus One.

The streak looks like the original PSP or something!

I'd feel like raving sausage smoker with that at my ear. As a result, the Desire or Galaxy S win out.

Well, write the iPhone 4 off providing you'd want a 32GB version based on price alone, and it can't run Swype.

I would say, if you like the Sense UI (it would appear that you dont), get the Desire.

Otherwise, Samsung Galaxy S is a clear winner. You get a decently sized screen too.

Android browsers are better than Safari (imo).

Android Sat Nav is free and just as good too.

The galaxy S has a few problems with its sat nav but while driving its been perfect, I use co pilot so it might help abit.

Looking at those pics the Streak is closer to the ipad than the iphone

I'm trying to make a similar choice (between Galaxy S and desire). I think the Galaxy S clinches it as it has 8GB-16GB inbuilt memory. This is something that has always irritated me with other android phones, the lack of onboard memory for apps. Also the 4inch Super AMOLED screen is amazing!
