Blackberry 9800 Bold Slider

The phone networks have got a shed load of 9700s and 8520s to get rid of first.

True but they will just price the 9700's cheaper or something like that...not even sure when the 9780 will be released...might be end of this yr or next yr.

All i know is that a lot of people are going to be pretty mad that RIM have just updated the RAM and camera otherwise its the same device as the 9700 but will be running the OS6.

Personally im not sure if ill upgrade to the 9800 or keep my 9700...it all depends on whether the 9700 runs OS6...if it does then ill just stick with that tbh and if it doesnt then ill just wait for the 9780 or might plump for the 9800 depending on how i like it when i get my hands on my bro's 9800 pre-dev unit that hes bringing over next week.

I would imagine the 9700 will run OS6 but like the 9000 Bold, it will be left with maybe around 50mb or so to install apps etc...as with OS5 it boots up with 120mb free....so app space will be at a premium but then at the moment im only using about 15mb of space for around 20 odd apps that run on my 9700 at the moment.

Damn both devices look tempting.

If the videos are anything to go by it seems like they're pretty much near to releasing both devices. There's also a BlackBerry at&t event next tuesday so hopefully they'll be announced then.

I think i'll wait and see how os 6 fairs on the 9700 then make a decision to get a new shiny toy :p

Absolutely massive day for Blackberry users and fans...AT&T have announced that they will be releasing the 9800 slider aka as the BB torch August 12th so i imagine the UK release isnt too far away...possibly end of Aug or early sept depending on what the networks say...ill probably get one but sim free as i absolutely loath network branded phones.

All info pertaining to the 9800 and OS6 here: http://crackberry.com/

Looks impressive, would really like a play around myself first before deciding what to go for:

Looks pretty damn awesome...about time RIM stepped up to plate with a proper OS that has a media side to it plus the other features that its know for ie the corporate functions.

My bro was at the AT&T launch in NYC himself so was bbm'ing all the interesting stuff...hes managed to load the same OS thats running on the 9800 in the video so its basically a release version which means i should be able to get the best out of it this coming fri when he arrives with his kids and wife for 4 weeks to stay.

Really excited about OS6 and the 9800...

Deffo want one of these! Looks like everything my Storm wants to be :( I wish my storm had more memory so there was a faint hope of seeing OS6 on it :/

Good news for BB users who have the 9700 Bold, Pearl 3G and the Bold 9650 although the 9650 is a CDMA only device so not suited for European use.

But it seems like 9700 users have a lot to rejoice as RIM has confirmed that the 9700 will get BB OS6...happy days indeed as it means i can hang onto my 9700 Bold for a bit longer altho knowing what im like ill still end up getting the 9800 slider once ive played around with it courtesy of my brother whos coming over on Fri...cant wait:p

According to the above article Mike L, co owner of RIM has confirmed that 9700 users will get the OS6

I am happy to report that BlackBerry 6 will be available in the months ahead (pending carrier certifications) on some of our leading smartphones, including the BlackBerry® Pearl™ 3G 9100, BlackBerry® Bold™ 9650 and BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700.

Awesome stuff:D

A more indepth review with a few videos of it in action:

Really depends on how much you use the device tbqh...if your using it heavily then you wont get a lot of battery life out of it...i mean my 9700 is brill for battery life but i can easily get it almost empty if im constantly messaging or doing other stuff with it but i usually get a good days to a day and half useage out of it....but i always just drop my 9700 into the charging pod when im not using it.

As for the battery compared to the 9700???...my bro more or less its around the same as the 9700 battery but as i said above it really depends on how hard you use it but even with hard useage it still lasts a fair bit.
As for the engadget part??...ermmm they seemed pretty impressed by the battery.

Battery life

As with every BlackBerry we've used, the battery life on the Torch seemed exceptional to us. In comparison to most other phones we've tested recently, RIM's offering sits at the top of the heap in terms of longevity. There were actually a few days we tested without charging overnight, and when we awoke we were surprised to find that the battery indicator had barely moved -- even with lots of emails and messages coming down while we were sleeping. It's obvious that the company has put a lot of effort into making sure that the Torch sips rather than gulps battery life, and they certainly seem to have succeeded. If you're on the move a lot or a heavy user, you won't be disappointed -- and let's not forget that you can always get a second battery or larger third-party battery if you've really got to go the distance.

Oh, sure - sorry I wasn't clear, was thinking about the thing as a whole at that point.

Main thing that bothers me is the phone not picking up changed made in GMail from a computer - that may be pretty annoying being as I am a heavy GMailer. Hmm.
