Take one cheap screw

Take trying to remove it whilst tired

Screw head now mullered

Best way to remove it? Oh, and it's in a ceiling. Oh, and if it's worth mentioning. I don't need to reuse the hole again (badom-tsch!) It's just annoying really.

So, whats the easiest method to removing a screw with a mullered head? :)

Cheers,
Jake

Can you drill through the head so it falls off and cover the hole with a lick of filler?

Was thinking this. I need to use filler on some other stuff whilst I'm there so shouldn't be a problem to cover it.

When drilling through I take it it's best to start with a small drill bit and work my way up?

i've done this before...a few times. i get a pair of pliers and turn the screw head but you would have to squeeze really hard and it can take a while - also will only work if the screw head isnt flush with the wall.

If you dont mind making the hole bigger then just drill into the ceiling right next to the screw and you should be able to wiggle it out.

Pliers could work, as it's not flush.

Cool, so a couple of options :) - Cheers all. I'll get 'er indoors to count how many times I swear removing it and will post results :p

flat screwdriver and hammer, whack around it a few times to loosen it up then use the pliers.

or

throw a bucket of paint on the ceiling, no one will ever ask "what's that ugly screw head sticking out"

I had this problem once, but I needed the hole, in the same location where the screw with the mullered head was lodged in!

I got my dremel out, and carefully using a round cutting tool (like a mini circular saw!) I made a deep slot for a flat head screwdriver to fit in.

drill it baby, drill it. OR, a dremmel with a flat circular blade, cut a groove in the head and use a flat headed driver.

Another good suggestion, chars :)

Problem is once I've done this ceiling fan shes got 3 more for me to do :o

Personally i would just touch it with a quick zap of a small electric angle grinder, then give the ceiling a touch of filler.

saw a groove with a hacksaw and use a flat head screwdrive?

I had to do that to one of the bolts holding my HSF on my GFX, did not enjoy sawing so close to my 5870.

Depending on what you have to hand, and what tools you're more adept with, either cut a slot in the head to use a flat-headed screwdriver, or drill out the screw.

Sod all that drilling and pliering malarky.
Centre punch and hammer
Tap it in further, skim the filler over, paint when dry.
