Who is still 100% behind the iPad?

i saw my first ipad 2 days ago on the train =O guy was using it as an ereader...so i got out my desire and did the same

tablets need to multitask (properly not iOS but OSX) and be completly stand alone. (no syncing with itunes rubbish)

before that the iPad is a glorified smartphone which cant make calls.

I guarantee he would have been able to read his ebook for longer than you as well :p Multitasking is great, but it needs a good battery, which the desire simply doesn't have. I had my desire for a month and had to carry a spare phone round if I felt I needed it in an emergency, because the battery was that bad. The iPad will get multitasking soon (although it should have had it on release, granted).

Well one thing o can guarantee the other gadgets won't do, the iPad is a chick magnet! It draws attention like no other gadget in the history of gadget, with the exception of pullinng put a rampant rabbit in public. Lol

Only because it shows you have more money than sense ;)

ive found wit, charm, charisma, looks and physique far more powerful ''chick magnets'' ...and you can take them on nights out! :D

Banter aside, my desire lasts a day of heavy use fine, not been left in the lurch for the 5 months ive owned it. Yeah the battery is the weakest aspect of the desire but android allows u to be more than flexable enough to deal with it.

And i mean multi tasking like OSX/Windows/Linux/Android does it i.e. actual multitasking not fast app swithing with a dash of backgrounding. Thats best reserved for phone OS's not computers.

I agree about the standalone option but with the current battery technology limitations the switching is the best option.

If you want OSX, then run a macbook air.

Try reading a PDF and typing on a word document at the same time on a 3.7", 4", 5" or 10" screen. That's actual multi tasking, on a phone you simply cannot be looking at two apps at once, so what more do you need than fast switching like in iOS?

Surely doing that on any device with less than an 13" screen would be majorly awkward?

All the reasons given for why the iPhone should do 'proper' multitasking always seem to relate to very specfic situations. Apple have taken the time design a compromise that does allow you to do two things at once whilst saving battery (which is the most important thing on any mobile device). They coould have just done 'proper' multi tasking which I would imagine would have been far easier to implement and said stuff the user experience but at least the two people that want to read a PDF whilst typing in Word will be happy.

:p

Couldn't agree more, I've had no issues with the way iOS4 multitasks and it's a great addition to the iPhone. I think a lot of the reasons are dreamed up by android fanboys who haven't even touched an iPhone or tried the multitasking....

forgive me if this sounds a little silly, but why the rolleyes at the end of your first sentance?

are you trying to say the guy should have been reading his book on a desire rather than his iPad? I'm confused

It' seems more like an embarisment thing

seriously your suggesting a £1174 netbook speced laptop as a viable alternative... i wish i lived in your world.

the rollie eyes was meant as a ''sigh not this again apple vs android argument'' but i guess self deprecating satire is best kept away from forums.

iOS is great for a phone where saving battery is paramount no question, however i would not buy a tablet PC which acted like a mobile OS not a computer OS.

While android phanbois are dreaming up reasons why full multitasking is awesome and opensource is the future, Apple fanbois are dreaming up reasons to justify their stupidly expensive tablet pc that acts like a phone or reasons why the restrictions on the functionality of the iphone are the best thing since sex.

each to their own.

no its fine address the minor frivolous comment and act like a child without discussing the actual issues.

guess its exactly what i should expect from an apple forum =)

There is no discussion. The iPad is on the market and correct me if I'm wrong but you can't buy any Android Tablet. So there's no comparison to be made and no one can judge if its any better or worse.

Archos 7 home tablet? The 160GB version is available now for £235 and runs Android 1.6.

Fair enough, there is something out there then. But its not even close to the iPad from the quick reviews I just read.

Sample highlight:
When it comes to the touch screen browsing don't expect an iPad-like experience. There is no multi-touch support and the onscreen input often felt slow and unresponsive.

Getting genuinely funny now, "Maybe if I hold it like this, that will be comf.. no.. maybe like this.. oh I need to type something, new position.. oh dammit!" :D

Oddly everyone I've seen using one thus far looks like a middle aged IT professional desperately trying to be hip. This a co-incidence or the actual user base?

I'm a 22 year old sound engineering student that regularly goes out and gets hammered and I love my iPad. Not your typical user then ;)
