i need some games for my 5 year old to play but he only plays on his older brothers laptop.

i think its only 1.6ghz , 1gb memory and a gforce 6600.

hes completed hl2 + ep1 & 2.

im going to put "no one lives forever 2" on for him when i can dig out the game from my garage.

what other good old games are there? i think hes best off with fps unless there are any really good adventure games for kids.

i dont mind if they are violent hes already played GTA: san andreas until he was bored he didnt see anything wrong with killing people in a game or "borrowing" other peoples cars.

its just a game to him and nothing else.

How about Worms?

I used to love those games on the PS1 when I was younger, and I believe there's a new one being released next month on Steam.

my sons the same age and likes similar games, depends what you consider suitable but he enjoyed L4D for a bit. Also crysis warhead, altho this has a few bad words in which he may repeat now so Im not sure I would let him on this now. Paradice city is a good one, easy to play and he got addicted to collecting all the cars. He also enjoyed bioshock 1 + 2, but he stuggled to play these by him self so it depends if you want to be helping him every 5 mins. Too many hidden iteas or random tasks.

How about he plays on his bike?
Or with lego?
Maybe he could build things, or play out in the garden with a football?

Not certain, but i think child in front of screen for entertainment is a very bad thing. As is letting kids play games that are rated well above their age group.

While I'm an avid gamer myself, I actually agree a bit on this one. I've watched my sister in law's child sit literally for hours in front of PS2 games since he could hold a controller. He has major concentration issues now, he's just been through his junior cert exams and he needed a sort of minder sitting beside him the whole time reminding him what he's supposed to be doing, when he should move on to a new question, and so on.

It may be totally unrelated of course, but it scared me enough to make sure my son get strictly rationed game time, when he gets it at all, and that any games he does play have puzzles that require a bit of thought.

It's very easy to let your kid sit in front of a game for hours, they're quiet and occupied, but I don't think you're doing them any favours by indulging them (not saying you are, o/p, just expressing an opinion).

I'm inclined to agree with these guys. 5yr olds should be out playing hide and seek etc.. (Where the facilities allow).

I certainly wouldn't allow my 5yr old to play a GTA game. Kids are so impressionable is unbelievable at times.

Thats not to say I think young kids shouldn't play games, I think the right games can really aid their development. Portal for example, would really stretch his (or anyones) mind. It really is a mental workout.
