Hey guys, not sure if anyone could help me? I'm looking to get Sky TV on the ne whouse (Virgin Cable isn't available in the area and been thinking about o2 for braodband and phone as I'm a mobile customer).

I can't seem to break the £40pm quote for:

Sky+ HD Box w/ HD Package
Basic Tv package w/ Music & News packages
Multiroom with Sky box (Ideally Sky+ but not willing to pay £199 for the thing!)

If anyone knows any good offers/codes/discounts I could use, please let me know! :)

Thanks!

Pre HD sky+ boxes are worth naff. I would get a second hand box for second location then you also have the 2 feeds if you get a HD box later.

So maybe get it installed with a sky box (free) on the 2nd room and buy a used sky+ box? (Do they both about/can they detect that?)

get the + box before install or they will only give you a single feed. They don't care what you use as long as its plugged into a phone line. Just say it was an old box from where you used to live.

Ah, ok, so does that mean order multiroom and just give them that box to install? Sorry never dealt with Sky before so unsure of how things do/can work with them! :D

Cheers

yeah, you should be ok ordering multiroom and supplying your own box.
i done this before.
had a sky+ box subscription
when contract was up. i quit them for a few weeks while on holiday.
then i rang them and ordered a new sky+ subscription and multiroom.
they fitted new box, then he ran 2 feeds to back room for older sky+ box.

have you a dish already?
if so you would be better off.
1. buy a quad lnb off auction site, and fit it your self. (its really easy)
2. run 2 feeds to 1 room.
3. buy a used hd box and fit it.
4. then run 2 other feeds to other room and use an old sky+ box or hd box.
5. ring them and activate boxes and multiroom.

if you want freeview hd eg. bbc hd, itv hd, ch4 hd, etc then dont take out hd package, you still get the freeview hd for free.
but for all sky hd then you have to pay £10 extra.

dont forget, if you dont take the movie or sports package, then you dont get the movie hd or sports hd either.

i have freeview hd with hd box, for £25 a month. multiroom would be £10 extra.

Why? Sky will install and give him a free HD box. + £20ish for a Sky+ box

Other wise its £10 for LNB, £10 for cable, £100/£70 for HD Box (PVR5 or PVR4) then £20 for a Sky+ Box (PVR3, can have a pvr1 for £10).

it just worked out easier for me, as it was all wired up already. just had to change the boxes.

to add another box with multi room they are charging £199 plus £30 set up and then £40 a month. they are not offering the old sky+ any more.

you used to get the extra box free when taking multiroom, but not any more
i bought my hd box for £30 off a friend but have seen them in the classifieds for around £50ish.
in the long run i have saved more, this way.

allow £50 for hd box.
as you said £10 for lnb.
£10 for cables.
£20 for old sky+ or £50 for another hd box.
£20 for basic sky package with news and knowledge and £10 extra for multiroom.

with 2 hd boxes its £120 setup
and £30 a month.

with sky its.
2 hd boxes £199 +£30 setup.
£40 a month

i agree with you as much as
order 1 box off sky for free with £30 a month (inc. hd)
and then buy a used box and activate it with multiroom £10 extra a month, but i was trying to get him under the £40 a month mark.

if he has a dish its his decision, but
if he has no dish, then he must take the sky option

Not sure if we have the dish or not, depends how fussy to current house owners (Who have a sky subscription) are to taking the dish with them or not, something they weren't sure about, so has been left in "whatever" status.

So just to check, I could get bbc hd, itv hd, ch4 hd for free with the Sky+ HD box and not subscribe to the sky hd package for a start, saving me £10 a month and still getting me some of the main channels I watch in HD? Sounds like a good idea to start off with!

So thought would be to get sky to do a multiroom install )(Standard sky box is free as multiroom), pre buy a Sky+ or sky+HD box, and ask the engineer to install said box instead, running 2 cables instead of one if he will do so?

Cheers, don't think I'll be doing any self runs, as from where the current dish is, its a long complex route to where I had thought of having the 2nd box :)

Cheers for the help with all this, think we're getting there! hehe
